Default A good, lightweight rifle.

Hi guys, gals, and Merry Christmas. A friend of mine was asking me what would bea good light weight rifle to hunt whitetail in WVA. He prefers .308 cal., and has to climb a big mountain to get to his hunting area. Any suggestions?

Ruger M77 Ultra Lite, Remington Model 7, or a Ruger 1A in 7X57mm or .30/'06..... Any of these three could wind up with a lightweight scope at no more than 6.5 pounds. A very fine option, but more expensive, would be a New UltraLight Arms Co. rifle. Before you put a scope on one, it weighs about 4.5 pounds............

Ruger compacts are very nice (that's what my wife uses in .308). Another option is a Kimber Montana or even a Kimber Classic. The Montana being the lighter of the two.

I just traded a Sauer 202 Outback (lightweight model) in 308 to a friend of mine for an identical rifle in 22-250. I also have one in 270, and they are great.

I would buy a 7mm08 mountain rifle in a remington 700. its a 308 casing with a 7mm bullet. is shoots great. Super light amd reliable. Great walking gun with plenty of power to kill whitetails. Overall it is a great gun.
