Savage Rifles
I'm looking at a Savage Model 11 in 243, it has the accutrigger, a free floating barrel and it sits on a blue gray laminate stock. It's really nice and priced at about $450. So I think it should be a nice little shooter but of course I look for any and all opinions on such things. And since there seems to be some good gun knowledge around here I'm asking.
Good deal? Good gun? |
RE: Savage Rifles
Depends what are you going to be hunting and where?

RE: Savage Rifles
I looked up some prices on the saveage 11 and 450 is a good price and Savage is a good gun. The .243 will be great on deer and shoot flat for a long way.

RE: Savage Rifles
for the $$$ you can't go wrong. Savage's are very accurate out of the box and the accutrigger is a great system. I have a 30-06 Model 111 and it has treated me awesome

RE: Savage Rifles
i'm not a big fan of the 243 for big bodied whitetails,i've seen to many get away. there are lots of better choices for big game.
ilike the 270 win for deer i have 3 savage rifles mod 11 7mm mod12 22-250 mod 110 22-250 savage rifles are very accurate out of the box.price sounds about right. |
RE: Savage Rifles
I'm not a fan of .243's for deer because I feel that initial blast of energy is vital in deer hunting and light bullets just don;t carry it.
But the modern Savage is a damned fine rifle, my buddies rifles are all .5 MOA's. |
RE: Savage Rifles
Shoot me an e-mail [email protected] and I'll give you a couple of 243 loads to start with that work well for your Coyotes and Deer.

RE: Savage Rifles
i own that same gun except it sits in a black syh stock shoots great put even crappy glass on top and she will shoot great accutrigger youll love the weight of it is heavy put i like it that way .243 is a great caliber for everything from groundhogs with 100 grain corelok no mess all the way to moose if you ask me
shoot 100grain corelok you dont need federals and winchesters $$$$$$$$stuff .243win |
RE: Savage Rifles
I've taken somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 deer with the .243 using Hornady 100 gr Interlock bullets and only had one needing a second shot. Heaviest was a dressed wt of 159 lb. If you like the rifle, and Savage are accurate reliable rifles, get it. If you have a choice though and want the short action, you would probably be better served with the same rifle in 7-08 or 308 for those big NE whitetails.
