30/30 would be plenty. If you get back to hunting full time I would invest in a goodbolt action 270 with a good 2x7 or 3x9 scope on it welcome back

i agree with bigiron, a .270 or a .270 WSM will cover you( if you become a seasoned hunter) , not only for deer but you could also have fun with Elk and other big game animals.

For whitetails under 150 yards, a Winchester 30-30 is as good as anything.

I dont think its got enough power. You shold be looking at a 338 Ultra Mag or a 30-378 Weatherby Mag as a minimum. A 150 pound deer is one tough critter.

.30/30 is still an excellent cartridge for deer and anything smaller than deer. If it's a Marlin 336, put a scope on it. If it is a M94 Winchester, usea micrometer aperture rear sight on it! You need all the bullet placement help you can get. Regular factory iron sights are the WORST aiming devices out there!

The 30-30 has probably killed more whitetail deer than anyother cartridge. Like Eldequello says,be sure you have a good set of sights on it.

Any of the standby calibers will work fine....30-30, 270, 30-06, 308.......put a decent scope on and you are in business....

The 30-30 will be allyou need for those whitetails. If you look are Hornady Leverevolution raounds it will increase your range to around 250 yards.

NO PROPLEM WITHT HE WIN3030 expecialy if you can use one for free

if i bought a new gun it would be a 3006 or a 3030 why buy a off caliber round that cost a arm and a leg for ammo
also the no longer make the win rifles so do not go looking for a new one
