Quilly,
I like the 7600 model, I didn't say .308. My favorite is the 30-06.

I have to pick just 1 huh???
OK then, it would have to be my sporterized model 98 in .243
It has accounted for most of my deer.....I got a few other &quot;favorites&quot; but my .243 would have to be my first pick.

Deer Slayer

Just spent the last hour fondling my X-mas present. I'm pretty impressed. Really nice piece of wood, good fit and finish, and (this surprises me) the open sights are right there when I put the rifle to my shoulder. I might not put a scope on it. Now if she shoots, I'll be very happy. The 7600 won't replace my Sako but I believe it will be a good complement.

My savage 243 lever did a great job on alittle buck this year while my custom 280 havested a 151 white tail and is a beautiful peice of work, come to think of it my 8 mm mag shot a really nice buck at 40 yard last year. My bigest buck was taken w/ a 30-30 at 10 yards. The common link the farthest I have shot in years is 124 yrds (151 buck), at these ranges every rifle is a good gun.
My favorite a custom 6.5-06 in a win featherweight (longest shot 145 buck 40 yards).

Quilly,

The 7600 is a wood stock satin finish. In reality, I was looking for a stillhunting-tracking rifle. I don't want this to turn into a 7600 thread but no, I haven't taken the trigger assembly apart yet. Doesn't suprise me what you say. I could also live without the cheesy engraving on the receiver. That being said, I am impressed with the wood and the fit and finish. Generally speaking, the quality of new Remingtons is, well... crap. I looked at new 700 ADLs when I picked up my rifle and wouldn't purchase one at any price.

Mine has to be the Marlin 336CS in 35 Remington (as long as I dont use Remington ammo) that gun has gone 11 for 12 deer that I pulled the trigger on, the miss was a bad round on a nice fat 8 pointer at 30 yards, I now reload all my own. PS this is a very popular round out in Michigan as well. Most of the folks I know out there have one in the arsenal and use it regular. I started with, if I remember correctly a Remington 114 in 35 cal. It is a pump with an exposed hammer. Loved that gun

Portage,
You may want to get the trigger adjusted your 7600 because when i bought mine it was to hard of a pull but now its almost like a hair trigger.

Quilly,
I know what you mean about no new triggers for the 7600, but my gunsmith loosened mine just they way i liked it. Yoour gunsmith should be able to. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
