Default AR-Platform for hunting?

I have an AR-15 platform with the 5.56/.223 and am looking at the 6.8 spc upper for it. My question for all who dare is this-- in your opinion-- would the 6.8 spc work as a versital carbine for deer/elk or would the platform of the AR-10 in .308 be better??

Give me your honest opinions on this-- I asked for it.

okie, pm me, I know a guy who builds AR-15's in the wssm cartridges, in the coming year he'll be building a 357/25wssm wildcat that will have the same ballistics as a 358 win and will certainly do well on elk sized game. that way you can use your AR-15 lower so you'll save $$ over an AR-10, also RRA makes a AR-15 upper in 458 socom, its the ballistic twin to the 45/70 and it will do the number on an elk to 150-200 yds.
I hunt with AR's alot, I have 223's and a 458 socom, and a 25 wssm, all of them accurate and for the intended game are more than adequate.

Are you talking about D-Tech?

A friend on another Forum!

It is 99% DPMS Panther Arms AR-15 / 223Rem using 55gr standard soft point bullets. It has a Barska 3x9x42mm scope with illuminated recticle and 500 yard bullet drop compensator. The stock is from a colt. It has alot of attitude packed in it as well!

Do you what what the ballistics will be like for the 7mm WSSM? That would be a sweet little rifle. Hopefully California will get these laws figured out so I would feel comfortable using mine [:@].

The 6.8 will handle both just fine out to around 200y or so, and since you already have the lower for it why spend the extra on a 10 model.
A nice place to look would be Ko-Tonics, quality stuff.

jeep, the 7mm wssm should match or slightly exceed the 7mm/08, least thats the way its went went the others, (243 win vs. 243 wssm, 358 win vs. 357 wssm, 257 bob vs, 25 wssm) with better case life due to the stronger case.
RR
Thats what I was thinking too. I e-mailed D-Tech, if I get a response I'll post it.

I am looking to either extend my upper variations on the current one I have or to get another one completely. I don't need anything much bigger than my 30-06 but a 308 would be nice--especially for christmas!!
