I havetwo sps's, one in a 300 ultra mag, and one in a 270. I love both of them. The trigger is a little heavy but I'm doing trigger jobs on both of them for $35 bucks a piece.

you mean one of these??

yep, i got one...same store...tsame caliber...he scope that came with it aint half bad either for a freebie....mounts and rings are trash...i threw mine out before i even fired a round from it...scope got me through a month till i put a VX-II 6-18x40 AOT Leopold on top...also put on a harris bipod...

fired me a couple sub-moa groups with it with factory ammo and factory rifle...that was with 50gr UMC JHP 40rd value pack ammo...seems to like 50gr bullets better than the 55gr ballistic tips...wish i woulda known that..fired 2 or 3 boxes of the 55gr NBTs then had to order 3 more boxes..while i was waiting on them i ran outta ammo and all i could find locally was the UMC stuff...going to shoot some light NBTs come spring...

40 confirmed groundhog kills this summer out to 350yds and didnt hunt all too hard due to work and it either being 90 degrees and sunny or pouring rain weeks at a time...hopefully get some longer shooting in this spring...210yds it still held great groups for me...the 55gr NBTs still shot good, groups just over an inch consistantly...cant wait to get the trigger worked, or have a Jewel dropped in...

I also got one in the 17 Rem. Fireball this past fall. It shoots excellent with the 20 gr. factory ammo....I shot a 3-shot group that measured slightly over 1/4'. Haven't shot it since. Will start load workup this spring. Factory brass is still unavailable the last time I checked. Hope that changes sometime soon.
Mine is currently wearing a Leupold straight 12X in Leupold mounts and rings. All in all, so far I'm satsfied.

I don't have any experience with the sps varmint, but I do have some experience with the 700 Varmit Laminated Matte finish in 22-250 and 223. Looks like the only difference is thesynthetic stock on the sps varmit. Both calibersare tack drivers!

I'm thinking about the same gun in a .223. Has anyone noticed anything after the barrel gets warm since it's not free floating?

I've never shot one, but I have fondled a few. I don't care much for the cheap plastic stock.
