For those of you who have shot the 300 wsm, how bad did it hurt? im interested in a 300 wsm but dont want one to kick my teeth out. been looking at the savage package guns weighing 7.50lbs. btw id only be shootin the 150 gr bt unless i went elk hunting wich is unlikely to be soon lol.

My model 70 Classic Stainless 300 WSM did not kick at all when I shot my bull moose last fall. At the range it kicks a bit more than my pre-64 model 70 30.06 and a bit less that my Ruger Express 77 Mk11 300 Win Mag. Some will say recoil doesn't bother them and I would say that is true for me when hunting. However, when at the range I am conscious of it. Therefore I have Pachmayr Decelerators on both the 300 WSM & 300 Win Mag and in addition when at the range I wear a Paste Recoil (sissy) pad and would highly recommend this route for anyone who is recoil conscious or who would like to shoot an endless number of rounds comfortably. The 300 WSM will certainly not beat you up. If you find it kicks more than you like put a Pachmayr on it. gg.

I just purchased a Browning A-Bolt w/Boss in .300 wsm. I too wondered the same thing. Took it to the range Monday and was impressed with how little it kicked. Just a tad less than my 30-06. I know the boss takes some recoil off but not sure how much. It was a pleasure to shoot.

The past pads run about $25.00 . I have to wonder if your that recoil shy won't it have a tendency to cause you to think more about recoil than about your shooting .

Geez, if you're not going elk hunting on a daily basis, why the heck do you need a .300 mag? Get a .270 WSM and don't worry about recoil. It will knock the crap out of any elk you would ever want to shoot, as well. <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>
