Flushing an action with carb cleaner?
Would there be a potential problem with flushing the gunk and dirt outof a hard-to-disassemblerifle or shotgun action with carborator cleaner?

RE: Flushing an action with carb cleaner?
I have used brake cleaner for the trigger assembly, carb cleaner leaves a residue...

RE: Flushing an action with carb cleaner?
Would only be a problem if you didnt oil it afterwards.

Why dont you just use gun degreaser? Then you dont have to worry about it not being safe.

You could do it, but there are better products, like Gun Scrubber.

It's a Browning B-78. I haven't had it apart in 30 yr. I can usually take down most guns, but I'm not trying that one. And It's the trigger assembly I can't get at.

RE: Flushing an action with carb cleaner?
After 30 years I would pony up the money and take it somewhere to have it cleaned and looked over. Probably cost less than 100 bucks to have it done right.
I own an A-5 which I am not about to tear into either. I ask the gun smith about it when I got it and he said not to worry about it. Just keep it relatively clean and bring it in every 5 to 10 years and have it looked at. Unless I drop it in muddy salt water or something or it starts not working right. I think he said they charge like $70 bucks to go through them and clean everything up. That is like 7 bucks a year when you add it up. Not a bad deal really. Paul |
