Look at any ammo manufactures list of cartridges that they load...
How many different rounds do they load for a .270???
How many for the 25-06???

On deer, the 25-06 won't do anything the .243 won't do, that's why it is also so popular....

A 25-06 with a 120gr is so close to a 130 gr loaded .270 it's almost a pointless discussion.I shoot a .270 and my son a 25-06.He took a both lungs and two ribs[entering + exiting] a 3pt bull elk this fall at 400yards.It never made it out of the field.Same load went through a black bear lengthways chest to hoop.I'd shoot anything up to and including moose with either no problem...................Harold [The 25-06 recoils slightly less]

Thanks guys. It appears there is not much difference between the loads.

My quarry is whitetail. Central Texas. Not a lot of large deer 78 lb to 200 lb. Want to drop them where they stand.

The 25-06 offers plenty of energy for deer sized game, and shoots just as flat as a 270win.For game larger than deer,I would skip over the 270 and go with a 7mmremmag.

I'd give the nod to the 25-06 if it were me.

Then shoot then through the shoulder with either and you'll plant them. Of course, the trade-off is lots of ruined meat. Life's full of compromises.
