Hand loaded with what ever bullet /powder/primer combo works up the best consistent accuracy.

+1 That Federal Fusion 165gr ammo is great stuff! Anything by Federal is excellent. I won't shoot anything but Federal in my Savage .308 !

If you can't make them yourself, then go with the Black Hills 168 or 175 Moly. Buy a case and they will ship direct to you from the company. I usually ordered mine through Iron Brigade Armory.

The Federal Premium, with that Sierra Matchking Hollow Point Boattail, will cause some of the grisliest distruction you will ever see-- but it behind the front shoulder in the soft spot, and prepare yourself when you walk up to your prize. It will be incredible.
For some reason, Federal doesn't list this as one of their game rounds. It's listedas atarget shooting round. Can anyone advise why?

I ordered a 308 barrel and i was wondering what everybodys fovorite type is?
Since I only use handloads, here's mine: (.308 Winchester, IVI Canadian NATO brass).

51.5 grains of H380 and a Nosler Partition or Sierra HPBT 165-grain bullet. Reduce to 48 grains for a Savage 99.

The 51.5-grain load requires individual workup in a given rifle,, of course.

Simple! Per Sierra,Matchkings are target bullets, and not game bullets. Since they are sometimes used in sniper ammo, they cannot be "hunting" (read "expanding") bullets. That's a no-no! So Matchking bullets are NOT designed to be expanding bullets. If one does expand every now & then, well who can say what any individual bullet might do when it hits something??
