RE: what will be your next firearm?
Hopefully a Japanese Arisaka if I can find nice one for sale at a decent price.
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
Well Quilly, I really like the swedes. I have a line on a Husqvarna 9.3x62, the only thing that I'm iffy about is being able to get brass. From what I've seen, Norma is the only one making it and only in limited runs. One of the local shops has ammo for it but at $50 a box reloading is a must. It will either be that or I'm considering a Howa thumbhole varminter.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
my dads building me an ar-15 i think! lets see if it ever gets done! if not he will probally give me one of his 2...so mine will be an ar-15 more than likely...

RE: what will be your next firearm?
I am looking at the Tikka in 308Win and 22-250.
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
Well Quilly, I shall not just get one, but 3 for me for next year. Since I live in NJ I am limited to shotguns only. So I will get the mossberg 695 and H&R Ultra Slug hunter both in 12 guage. Then I will need a muzzel loader and a Knight will fill that need for me as well. SO that is my list for the off season.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
I am tempted to get a Tikka 7mm-08. I may pass on it though, have a 270wsm and a 30-06. Still, the temptation is there.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
My next gun is going to be a Remington LSS in either 7mm Rem Mag or 7mm RUM. Anyone have any experience with the RUM, and if so how much worse is the kick than the regular Rem. Mag.? Thanks

RE: what will be your next firearm?
the next firearm that i plan on buying (or building) will be chambered in 338-06. i'm not sure if i'll buy the weatherby ultra lightweight or find an old rifle or action and have it re-barreled then do the rest of the work myself. i'll probably build one myself.
If you're not huntin' you're not livin'!!!!!!!! |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
That question has been killing me for about six months. Right now I am leaning towards a new Tikka in 270WSM. But then again, last week it was a marlin in 450 marlin......as you can see, I am getting nowhere fast!!!!! Maybe I'll just have to get both???
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
As it will be a few months before I can get my new rifle, I may change my mind, but right now I am leaning towards a Remington Model Seven LS in 7mm-08.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
My next rifle will be a Ruger #1B stainless.I am still debating which cartridge I want it chambered in.my local gun shop has 2, one in 243 and the other in 7mm STW.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
I just ordered a Springfield Armory Custom Loaded Operator in 45 ACP. Cant wait for it to get here. This is the first 1911A1 type pistol for me. My last purchase was a Ruger M77 Ultra Light in .30-06. Sweet shooting rife.

Quilly
I'm with you on your first choice. I too like the idea of a Finlight in 300 WSM - which will be available in August/03. gg. "When I was born I was so surprised I couldn't talk for a year and a half" |

Weatherby Super Varmint Master Mark V 220 Swift single shot, 378 Weatherby Mag., Thompson Encore, or Winchester 22-250 Stealth which ever I get the best deal on first.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
I just don't know yet. Most likely some sort of revolver. still doing my homework. So many guns so little money to buy them all.

RE: what will be your next firearm?
I hope to acquire three new rifles this year. If it doesn't work out, then two with one in the works will have to do.
The first will get going in late Spring and will be a custom .338-06 built on a Mauser action. It will sport a 23" Pac-Nor barrel, MPI synthetic stock, Decelerator recoil pad, three-position safety and Jewell trigger. It will wear a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36mm Matte Finish scope. The second will be a youth rifle, probably a Remington Model 7 or Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, either in .260 Rem, 6.5x55, 7x57 or 7mm-08. I also might look at the new Ruger synthetic in any of these chamberings, if they are available. It is for my 12-year-old son. My first choice for the cartridge is the 7x57. Handloaded, he should be able to take anything up to an including moose and elk with that round. Probably end up putting a Leupold VXII 3-9 on it. The third will be another custom rig built on a pre-'64 Model 70 Winchester action, 24" Lilja Octagon barrel, High Tech Specialties stock, Decelerator recoil pad, Jewell trigger, three position safety, with all parts teflon-coated battleship grey. It will most likely wear a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44mm Matte Finish scope. I am still wavering back and forth on the chambering. Right now, I'm leaning toward the .260 Rem. But about every other day I change my mind to the 6.5x55 Swedish, then I change it back to the 6.5mm/.284. If the rifle ends up being a 6.5mm/.284, the scope will be the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44mm Matte Finish. Good Dogwork and Good Hunting |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
I'm getting a Walther P22 for my birthday next month.
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
Easy one for me. Definetly a Winchester M70 In .338 WSM as soon as they get out there and maybe a Taurus Raging Bull in .480 Ruger. Hopefully both!!
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
I would like to buy a 257 Roberts 7x57 or a 45-70. Maybe all three:). I also like the idea of a 338WSM but I've nver heard when or if Winchester will bring this one to market. I'll just have to wait what I get the best buy on.
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
I've been waiting a long time for a Savage model 99 in 250-3000. I just love them! That will be my next buy.
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
my next rifle will be a custom built gun.
nightforce nsx 5.5-22x56 scope custom action mcmillen stock (prone or a4) 32 or 34 inch 1.25 inch barrel (34 if i get a muzzle break, 32 inches if i don't) 338 cal cartridge (either 338 lapua, 338 tomahawk or 338/416 rigby) it will shoot 300gr sierra match kings 3100+fps and should be good out to 2000 yards :) cheers ![]() |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
thinking about getting a Remington Titanium in 270 or a model 7 in 308
|
RE: what will be your next firearm?
CZ 550 Magnum Safari in 416 Rigby.
(Side Note: Interesting, when reading the African threads there isn't any talk about recoil or flinching problems. Necessity, I dare say, must demand a different mind set.) EKM Good judgment comes from bad experience! Half of elk hunting is knowing what NOT to do! |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
I'm going to have to change my answer, if that's permitted. Having been tempted a little while now I can't see the justification of getting a 7mm-08. I've got enough mid-range power - 270WSM and a 30-06. I'd be hard pressed to justify having two right now, but I just had to have it. Merry Christmas to me, that kind of thing (it helps when you don't have to ask for permission). Having seen quite a few recent posts asking for advice on the next rifle, I've come to the conclusion that my next one will be a big brute. Not as big as elkampmasters, but likely to be a 375H&H. I'm light years away from that right now, but that's my plan and I'm sticking to it!

RE: what will be your next firearm?
Cal,
Sound strategy --spreadiing out your calibers. Since you have time, then work your way up into the bigger calibers in a leisurely fashion. Shoot some of your friends/acquaintances calibers that are bigger than what you got. Preferrable to not cover the whole distance in one leap. When shooting someone elses gun make sure the stock is long enough, if not add a pair of gloves or a folded gun case between your shoulder and the stock to make the fit. Be careful of scopes that are mounted too far back or have a short eye relief. Make sure your thumb is away from your nose. Be wary of someone setting you up for recoil entertainment. Keep close track of what bullet weight they're feeding you so thet don't slip in a heavy one! Then fire away and enjoy, knowing you WON'T get kissed on your first date. Big bores are best introduced with a little coaching, unfortunately some sick folks will just hand it to you with no guidance and watch what happens - the more you get hurt the more macho they feel. Good Luck. EKM Good judgment comes from bad experience! Half of elk hunting is knowing what NOT to do! |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
In all actuality, my next arm is the derringer I'm gettin, I already bought it and all, just ain't got it yet, grandmama's bringin it up from TX next weekend.
After that one, I've bout got my old man into "loaning on a permanent basis" me his .44 mag Marlin 1894. But I won't get it until mid Feb. After that one, I've got plans for a Ruger Vaquero in .44mag, 5.5" bbl, gloss stainless finish with rosewood grips, and another one as soon as I could afford it (won't it be a pretty pair? ). Worst part about it, Soon as I get thiat pair, maybe a mate to my Ruger Super Blackhawk, and maybe a custom benchrest, a new .416rigby, and MAYBE another Semiauto pistol, I figure I'm done for life, I'll have everything I could ever use and then some, cutting me off somewhere around 18-20. Kinda sad to be able to see the end of the road.... Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!! |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
I've been having a real big itch to buy a Garand that needs to be scratched.
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms... who's bringing the chips? |
RE: what will be your next firearm?
hmmm... do Garands frequently need to be scratched? :)
....I think my next gun purchase is going to be a pump 20ga for my 17yr old daughter...probably Mossberg. She went quail hunting with me the other day, and loved it. Now she wants her own gun..... think I'll get it, and let her THINK it's hers... I've always wanted to try a 20 on quail.... "Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness..those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." RE: what will be your next firearm?
Tough to decide for me. I want a Model 70 Coyote. Does anyone have one and how do you like it? I also want to get an Encore in a bad way. The Encore would most likely be a 25-06 with a 26 inch barrel. Last but not least I would like to replace my 45 auto. I had to peddle it when I was laid up. Hard to buy many guns when you live on a disability though.
