For $500, with everything you described, try the Mossberg Model 935.

Good luck.

A mossberg 935 is about the only semi-auto 12g for $500...and that's not even camo.

Very easy. Buy a Stoeger 2000. You'll have between $50-$100 to spare. Whoops Sorry didn't see the whitetail part. You'll have to get the two barrel combo and that costs more. Might have to throw a couple of bucks on it. Still check it out.

He could just use rifled slugs for close range when he's hunting whitetails, I hear that out of some shotguns, they can be accurate.

I think the Mossberg 935 would work, a friend of mine has one, and it's pretty good, he's killed a turkey with it, and it works great at the range.

on the stoeger website the msrp of the 2000 is 495 WITH ADVANTAGE TIMBER! that means that usually you can get about 50-60 $ less than msrp, looks like a good deal to me...

Charles Daily imports a pretty good simi auto that would fit into your specs, and several others are imported from Turky and India.
If you want American made the Mossburg is about it, and tough as nails, but for a slug barrel your gonna have to spend some extra reguardless of the gun you choose.
