I have both and prefer the Marlins myself as well. Though it is a really good price and I would get it.

Guess I will add my 2 cents worth...

I bought my Winchester 94 for $200. It was in about the samecondition as what you are describing and had a cheap Tasco scope on it (which has since come off).

So the price sounds about right.

What you should also be checking is how does the rifle fit you? Does it carry well for you? Have you compared it to the Marlin?

Both are fine rifles. So I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

~Robert
PS: but you should go with the Winchester

Marlin has a tighter action than a modern 30-30, but you have to love hte Model 94.You can also get a good scope setup that all me kids have used for 1st year deer. You have a better safety with the Marlin but if you are going to shoot yourself or someone else it could happen with either.

Offer 150$ or get them to put a scope on it, unless it is an early model. Get some LeverRevolutions rounds and plug away.

Buy the 94. If you want a Marlin, get it later. The Marlin is still in production! I am not sure the 94 will ever be back. If I got a Marlin, it would be a .45/70 or at least a .35 Remington.......

I love my '94, and while I've never owned a Marlin I have carried/shot them. The marlin feels like more gun, but its also heavier and bulkier, and most hunters don't carry 30-30s for sitting in a stand.
Like others have said the 94 may never be built again, and if you don't like it you shouldn't have much trouble getting your money back selling it.
