.22 Hornet...

Just picked up a Hornet.

What factory round is best for a fur friendly result on fox and coyote?

Thanks!

The standard 45 grain soft point works better for your purpose than the loadings with 40 grain ballistic tipped bullets as they are more explosive(if such a term fits the hornet). I don't know what rifle you have and assume you won't be reloading for it however if you reload and rechamber it to K hornet it really wakes it up. By rechambering it to k hornet you will experience higher velocity, more accuracy, not as fickle on loads, longer case life, and easier extraction.

I have had decent results with the Hornady 35 gr. VMax. Stay way from bone.

Thanks. I don't reload, nor do I have the desire to do so. Therefore, I need a good factory round that is capable and fur friendly.

Thanks again!

Crow,

I reload 13 grains of lil' gun powderwith the 35 grain V Max. This givesme around 2900 fps. To be honest, I was gettinggreat groups with the factory loaded Honady ammunition.

I use the Lyman 225415 cast gascheck bullet cast of hard alloy with 4 grains of Unique foir a load that's in the .22 LR category. It doesn't mess up a pelt. The factory Hornet ammo is ALL made for as explosive an expansion as can be gotten, none of it is made with the idea of preserving pelts in mind! Any bullet with a MV of much over 2000 FPS can really mess up fur, even if it is a full-metal jacket!
