RE: .270 win or .270WSM ?

I purchaseda Remington 700xcr in 270wsm and mounted a Burris Eur-Diamond 2.5x10x44mm with the Ballistic Plex retical. Shooting Winchester 150gr. Power-Point ammo chronographed at 3200fps and shooting 1/2" groups at 100yds. And I have not had the chance to reload for it yet. I have the componets to do so. Maybe this winter I will start load development. This is my First stainless with synthitic stock rifle that I have ever owned and I love it. This is going to be my harsh weather rifle. Know back to original question if you have not owned or shot a 270win. like I did and then shoot the 270wsm you will not have any regrets. Out of all the wsm cartiridges the 270wsm and 300wsm will last, this is my opinion. Hope this helps.

270 all the way. It's all on paper. I very seldom shoot past 150 yards at deer. I simply don't think I am that good. Shooting from a rested sandbag is one thing and shooting from a tree limb is another. Try shooting the two different rounds. The270 WSM is here to stay as well as the 300WSM.The 270WSMseems close to theregular 7mm mag though.

RE: .270 win or .270WSM ?

I have never shot the 270 WSM but I can't imagine the recoil to be that much more than the 270 Win. I have on the other hand shot a Winchester model 70 Wal-Mart special in 300 WSM. To me the recoil in that gun was considerably less than a 300 Win Mag. That being said I would still go with the 270 win. My main reason being ammo selection. If you compare the two although the WSM will outrun the Win you have a much broader selection. In addition to that 270 win can be found at just about any mom and pop store that carries ammo.
I'm really not one to talk though considering that I have a Tikka T3 in 338 Federal. Out of 3 gun stores and all of the Wal-Marts around only one of them carries the ammo. My solution is just to keep a good supply handy and don't forget them when I go hunting away from home.

I had a 270 WSM and wound up selling it to someone who wanted it much more than I did. Would I own a 270 WSM again? The answer is no, I would not. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't think it offers that much over the 270 Winchester to justify the added cost in ammunition.

I like the 270 cal. good all around cal. Are the WSM's gonna be around for ever or is it just a fad?

Get the 270 Win-not the WSM.

The 270 Win. is a classic deer cartridge. Any small town hardware store or gas station carries ammo for it. Why? Because the 270 Win. is a great deer cartridge.

As for the WSM, I don't believe they will thrive much longer. The added velocity (and barrel wear) doesn't really improve the intended purpose of the rifle. Plus, the cost of components and ammo is a lot more.

Get the 270 Winchester; you'll never regretit.I guarantee it!!!!!!!!

The 270 wsm looks good on paper and Im fairly clueless about them as I havent shot one. I can say though I dont think they are going anywhere because they are selling very well. For me though the old classic 270 has been absolutely flawless. Long range, short range...whatever...

I have a Sako 75 in the .270 WSM,this thing is a tack-driver with handloads and the recoil is nothing...;)
Yes but the Sako is nearly 2 lbs heavier... I have a Sako in the 270 WSM and find the recoil very manageable but a Tikka light, that might be another story...
That's a good point about the weigh! If I didn't get this gun from a friend that needed cash fast I never would of bought it...

My buddy has the Tika T3 in 270WSM. I shoot a Remy 700 XCR in 270. I can tell there is a BIG difference in recoil when I shoot his gun. I would get the 270 myself just for this reason. Good luck.
