I much prefer the 45 ACP. If you don't reload, the 9mm will probably cost less to shoot.

.45ACP all the way. if ur in bear country u wouldnt want a tinya** round like the 9mil. i have shot 9mils for a long while but havent seen one that is as good adn powerful as the ACP.

I wouldn't want a .45ACP if I were in bear country either!

If you want a pistol to shoot at the range and carry into the woods just for plinking and a possible coyote shot a 9mm will do you just fine. And for self defense there are plenty of good 9mm choices to do the job.

I have a XD45 and I think it's a great pistol. It's reliable, accurate and very easy to breakdown and clean etc...Iprefer it over a 9mm for self protection but I find I shoot the 9mm more (tons more fun to shoot and less expensive)

But I would not feel too safe witheither the9mm OR 45ACP in big bear country for that you will need something bigger.

I believe the Desert Eagle is chambered in .50AE (among others)not to be mistaken with the S&W.500...not even in the same class.;)

No handgun is really suitable for shooting bears! Of the two you mentioned, the .45 ACP is far and away the best, but don't shoot a bear with a handgun unless there is no other way out of a dangerous confrontation. It tends to excite them and make them even more cantankerous!

Is that a real word? Sounds cool! Just like propensity, I have a propensity to like weird words, I guess.

Amen to that. I love my 45 but I don't want the only thing between me and a bear looking at me like elk backstraps to be a 45. If in bear country I want a biggo gun.
