Response from Ebay Re: my email to them about new policy
#1
Dear Jack,
Thank you for writing eBay to express your concerns about our pending
changes to the Firearms policy.
My name is Shea and I recognize your frustration regarding our Firearm
restrictions.
We have always valued an open and transparent marketplace; if items are
legal to buy and sell in an unrestricted manner we allow them on our
site. However, there are some items that while legal, may not be safe
for our marketplace. In these instances, our applicable policies go
beyond the law to ensure that our marketplace is safe.
Currently we do not allow actual firearms on the site. After careful
consideration our executives and our Trust and Safety team determined
that any item required to fire a gun has no place on eBay.
As of August 13th, 2007, any part or accessory that is required for a
gun to fire will not be permitted. This includes, but is not limited
to, prohibiting the following items:
- Receivers
- Frames
- Silencers
- Converters
- Barrels
- Choke tubes
- Slides
- Cylinders
- Magazines
- Firing pins
- Trigger Assemblies
- Live ammunition
- Bullets
- Brass/casings
- Shells
- Primers
- Gunpowder
- Any assault weapon-related parts or accessories
- Any part or accessory prohibited for sale by federal or California law
The following items will continue to be permitted:
- Trigger guards
- Stocks
- Butt plates
- Pistol grips
- Holsters
- Storage cases
- Grips
- Cleaning supplies
- Cases
- Racks
- Slings
- Dies
- Molds
- Scopes

All of our policies are under constant review. As the Internet and the
way our communities use the Internet evolves, our policies and our
marketplace must evolve with it. We determined that this policy change
was in the best interest of promoting a safe marketplace for all
members.
eBay welcomes comments from members of our Community about our products
and services. We have a long-standing company policy, however, that
doesn't permit us to accept or consider any ideas, suggestions,
proposals, or materials other than those eBay has specifically
requested. This policy is intended to help eBay avoid misunderstandings
if new products, services, or features developed internally by eBay
employees are similar or even identical to a member's idea.
***Important***
Any comments or materials you have submitted or may submit to us,
including questions, technical or creative suggestions or ideas, are
considered to be non-confidential and non-proprietary. For more
information about this policy, go to:

We appreciate the time you have taken to write to us and for your
contribution to eBay.
Sincerely,
Shea

This sucks. [
]They're probably going to lose most of the business they once had with me because of this. It makes me mad!
But I know that the gun market was only a scratch out of a rollover wreck in the world of ebay, and they will unlikely consider changing the rules.

This policy is really silly. Not allowing choke tubes! Even in MA you can buy them freely. Anyway let's hope others like gunbroker will pickup the business and we will forget about eBay.

I'd think that all the po-gun folks should've been at gunbrokr and Auction Arms to begin with rather than ebay. These two sites are obviously 100% pro-gun. Maybe ppl just put aside thier 2nd amendment values to save a few dollars on eBay.
You know kinda like buying at the Walmart rather than supporting the small local shop that actually cares about your business and knows the products they sell.
Any side of the fence so long as you save a buck.

Many dealers on gunbroker also sell on ebay. They won't mind if you switch. If you want ebay to feel it, stop buying any sporting goods from them. E-mail the sellers and let them know what you are doing. When their sales dry up, so will ebay's fees they charge on each transaction.
When Wal-Mart started discontinuing guns, I stopped buying sporting goods from them. I won't even buy a license from them.
