7mm-08 is my favorite cartridge, I've got 2 of them. One is a Remington Model 7 that I use off season when I hunt hogs and do lots of walking through heavy Texas brush, the other is my primary deer rifle a Sako Hunter. I shoot handloads, 120gr. Barnes X at 3100 fps in the Sako. The accuracy is excellent in both rifles, though the recoil is different. My Sako doesn't recoil much and is a joy to shoot, the model 7 is lighter and thus has more recoil though you don't ever feel recoil when shooting at something with hair on it, only when shooting at paper. Get a rifle in this cartridge and you will never regret it.

For everyone who has shot the 7mm-08 how much recoil does it have. I^m going to buy a new rifle for my daughter to deer hunt with. She is 10 years old now I want to get something that will drop a deer cleanly but won^t have her flinching and being afraid to pull the trigger. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

With proper hearing protection of course, a BOSS equipped A-Bolt in 7mm-08 (handloads could easily generate starter loads with sub-.243 recoil levels for training) or even .243 should fit the bill....probably the way I'll end up equipping my own daughters shortly as well. Good luck...

RE: Anyone use a remington 7MM08 ?
Mark IN NE I have a winchester model 70 in 300win mag with the boss it does knock down on the recoil but man is it loud. I wear muffs at the range but I hate to wear ear plugs in the woods sometimes you dont have time to put them in before you shoot.I have the gun narrowed down to a remington model 7 or a ruger 77 ultralight just trying to decide on the caliber. A 243 has very little recoil but I would like a little heavier bullet to hunt deer with.
