What is the perfect tool
If you were to "Go all mountainman" What would your perfect hunting tool be .
Mine seems to be subject to change . I thought for a long time that a " Stricker/RXP100 type" with a hinged floorplate 16" bbl in 35 Whelen look throughs with a fixed 6x "Weaver" in matt stainless would do . I think at the moment that flip ups on a 460S&W over a 20 ga with a composite stock 26" bbls . A thin stock like the one used on the m-77 with the hollows you could carry 5 rnds on each side . 2 triggers and matt stainless. How about it what's yours? |
RE: What is the perfect tool
I think Id go with an M1A

RE: What is the perfect tool
If I was limited to only one gun 12ga shotgun without a doubt. Birdshot to ball does just about it all.

ORIGINAL: Diggerr I think Id go with an M1A I'll go with a Remington Model 7, .243 or 7mm-08, with a decent 3-9x scope. Pauly makes quite a bit of sense also. |
RE: What is the perfect tool
No question here, the 22 RF. It will kill plenty of food and you can carry a lot of ammo in a small space. Been there and did that.

I think I'd go with the shotgun too, a nice reliable pump gun chambered for 3in. You can load it with bird shot for Grouse and such and slugs for big game. Shotgun slugs are also very very good protectionagainst dangerous critters. It's not too heavy and you can get off multiple shotsvery fast and accurately. They can be adapted to hold more shells (if the state laws allow) and are easy to load even with gloves on.
Great "tool" no matter where you are. |
RE: What is the perfect tool
Its hard to beat a shotgun for a do everything hunting tool that will be used as your main source of food and protection. I'd go with either a Rem 870 or Browning BPS 12 guage with composite stock and matte finish. A barrel in 24-26" would be ideal with interchangable full and rifled tubes.
