RE: Favorite Caliber
For just shooting I prefer a 22 centerfire. I would never use it on deer but that is my favorite

RE: Favorite Caliber
With a cast and jaketed bullets from 100-250 grns3 cans of powder and a non-mag. primer the 30-06' will do every thing on the continant resonably safely . I know it's not for the great bears but under a 100 it'll do the job as long as you don't shoot it in the forehead . If I weren't going north of theMason-Dixion I'd have to take the 357 as a second.

RE: Favorite Caliber
caliber:
1. the diameter of something of circular section, esp. that of the inside of a tube: a pipe of three-inch caliber. 2. Ordnance. the diameter of the bore of a gun taken as a unit of measurement. cartridge: 2. a case containing any explosive charge, as for blasting. 3. any small container for powder, liquid, or gas, made for ready insertion into some device or mechanism: an ink cartridge for a pen. They are NOT the same thing![&o] |
RE: Favorite Caliber
I'm like Hairtrigger, as I would have to say my favorite is the 223. Of what you have, I like the 308 and the 30-06. Come to think of it, I like the 270, 7X57, 7-08, 30-30, and the 357 also!;):D;)

RE: Favorite Caliber
My favorite is .308, just because of familiarity. My next rifle is going to be a 7mm-08. Heard so many good things about it, I decided to try it.

RE: Favorite Caliber
how bout 7MM Mag. Thats what I'd vote for
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
gotta give some love for my 25-06thats my choice..
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
ORIGINAL: cma3366a .243win, low recoil, flat trajectory, just enough gas for whitetail. Tyler: You need more details. Hunters hunt everything from Cottontails to Elephants. My favorite for one would not be my favorite for the other. |
RE: Favorite Caliber
the 270 has treated me well.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
for whitetails and bigger 45-70. small game 204 ruger.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
I used .270 for years and in 1995 switched to 6.5 mm.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
The cartridge I chose was the 7-08 which is the .284 cal. Since it's a .284 then my choice for whitetails would be the 7mm mag cartridge.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
From that list, 30-06
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
ORIGINAL: cma3366a just enough gas for whitetail. I chose the .308, lower recoil, similar ballistics and power of the 30-06, and the .308 is very accurate, I like mine. The .308 is also the parent to another great cartridge, the 7mm-08, which is great for whitetail, but perhaps slightly iffy for elk when using factory loads. |
RE: Favorite Caliber
.243 for me, have killed over 150 whitetails with mine.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
ORIGINAL: nchawkeye .243 for me, have killed over 150 whitetails with mine. |
RE: Favorite Caliber
30-06 is reliable and depending on how much powder you put behind it, it can take down any type of game.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
Well I voted 7.62x39 and I stand alone, I aint scared either!
zip on recoil, cheap to shoot, accurate in a accurate rifle, good enough for deer, did I mention cheap to shoot? |
RE: Favorite Caliber
In Peterson's Hunting 2007 annual catolog, over 60 types of 30-06 off the shelf ammo was listed as available. Now that tells you whatthe favorite cartridge is.
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
The 30-06 was my choice. It can do anything the other cartridges can, and I just like it :)
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
.280 Remington is my favorite
|
RE: Favorite Caliber
