Default Weatherby rifle question????

Is there a big difference between the Vanguard and the Mark V? I can see the diferences on paper, but is the Mark V worth double what the Vanguard costs. I am looking on picking up a 257 Weatherby mag in the vanguard with a wood stock and fit it with a Burris 4-14X40 scope, and a harris bi-pod. It all runs about 975$ still less than the Mark V does. Is the Mark V still a better buy?

I would appreciate any comments or opinions!!
Thanks

I think the Vanguards are just fine, but with the Mark V you aren't so much paying for better performance as a fancy high-grade stock, shiny bluing, etc.

I am pretty sure that they are the same action, just different stock adn barrel options/finishes, but somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

I think they are different, because the bolt on the Mark Vwas actually rifled, it was weird. I saw that at Gander Mtn.

A vanguard is closer to being a remignton 700 than its is a weatherby MarkV. Totally different design, bolt, lugs, barrel, trigger.

I went with the vanguard. The cost was a little more than I printed earlier. But the sporster is a fine looking gun and I can't wait to get it out to the range!!!!

thx for the replies

I hope you handload at $2+ per shot. I would trust partitions at those velocities.
