270 Question

If you were gong to use just one grain of factory ammo for deer, antelope, and coyote, what grainand what bullet would you shoot? Keep in mind long shots and wind. I know there is no "magic bullet", but what one would you choose for all three? Thanks!:)

RE: 270 Question

Well I would go with the 130 grain even though folks have had good results with the 110 grain Sierra. I would tend to error a little on the heavier side and go with the 130 grain. Either the Partition or TXS would be my choice.

RE: 270 Question

I haven't shot my 270's in a couple of years, but my son uses Win Supreme 140 gr Accubonds and has had great results. From what I have seen my son do and the way the bullets have performed on game, I would take the Accubonds after anything deer size or smaller.

Yep, 130 gr...My brother's .270s happen to like the Federal Premium 130 Sierra SPBT...Him and his son have killed 50-60 deer with this bullet...and one black bear...

RE: 270 Question

130 gr will work just fine.

140 gr might just reach out a little farther. Due to the fact that it weighs more and will retain more down range energy.

But you do not need accubonds to kill a deer.

Those bullets were designed more along the lines to be used for thick skinned game such as Elk and Bear.

The old Remington Core Loct's has killed a slug of game in its day - along with the Winchester Supreme's and the Federals. Nothing wrong with a $10 box of shells.

RE: 270 Question

My gun really likes the 130 Federal Fusion but when the chips are on the table, I always bet on the Nosler Partition. (130 of course);)

RE: 270 Question

My 270 is a tack driver with the Winchester Supreme Balistic Silver tips 130 grain. I've killed dozens of deer with this round, most callapsed, a few traveled less than 30 yards. You do not need accubonds on deer size animals.
