Default which 270

I just bought a Interarms MarkX in 270 with a 24in barreland a Remington M700 ADL Made between 1962 and 1963 in 270 with a 20 inch barrel. Got both of them for under $600. The Remington though is supposed to be rare as its a 270 with a 20in barrel and only made for one year. Which one would be better to take hunting in Florida most likely deer and hog? And is the 130gr bullet or 150gr better for hog?the 150 seems to drop a little faster at longer ranges from what ive read.

I would carry the 20" barrel, and if the hogs are much over 200 pounds, I would use 150-grain Nosler Partition bullets.

I used to hunt in Alaska with a 20" .270 with that bullet loaded to 2800 FPS.

The 20" is very much better in thick stuff, and although you MAY get some longer shots in FL, I tend to think of that place as one where shorter range shots are the norm.

Yes, the 150-grain bullet drops a little more at long range. That's because it starts out slower. But it also gives better penetration on tough varmintslike hogs and bears, moose, elk, too! It also bucks the wind a little better at long ranges. And making good hits on game at long, uncertain ranges is affected more by unpredictable wind drift than by bullet drop.

The 130's are plenty for any deer, caribou, and anything smaller.

I prefer the longer barrel for myself but eldeguello is probably right, in thick cover the shortbarrel will serve you well. I would ude the 130 TSX for everything but the Partition is an excellent choice as well.

Four inches is the height of most coffee cups. I don't think you will notice much if any difference in either one.

If the brush is so thick that 4" makes a hill of beans difference I doubt you will have shot period.
