You can never go wrong with a Leupold VX-II, no matter the caliber. I've used a couple other companies in the past (both reputable) and had problems. I now only use Leupold and swear by them. It may cost you a little more, but when it comes down to the time and money you invest in any hunt, the added security is worth it to me.

RE: Which scope for 30-06 (deer rifle)?

I just bought a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 last week. I've shot with it once and was pleased so far. However, I had limited time and only got out to 50 yards. (Just sighting it in.)I'll be back at the range later this week and will take my time sighting it in at 100. So then I can let you know how it does. To me it seems very clear and bright. I got it to replace a simmons. The price was $140. I paid a little more because I got it at my local shop and I really support his business. But I think you can get it much cheeper off line. I also really dig the silver finish. Looks awsome on my rifle. But that's all asthetics. If it performs then it's on for this season. If not then I may upgrade and use this scopeon a back up gun. I'm a fan of the 3x9x40 with a set objective. (KISS) Keep It Simple Stupid! I had a 4.5x20x50 AO and hated it. Always moving dials and that big lens made it imposible to fit my rifle into a case. Just a pain in the rump if you ask me.

I agree with all mentioned. You can't go wrong with A Burris Fullfield II, Leupold, NIkon Prostaff or even A bushnell 3200 elite. All durable scopes.
