I did my first stock in the fall of 1991 in Gunsmithing school.
I still have three custom stocks "in progress"

One is a wild looking target "Chin stock" that I'm making for a 10/22 I'll probly sell it when I get it done so I can buy a new bow or golf cart to fix up for hunting.

Here are a few links I have saved in my favorites list.

WOOD OR GLASS? You can buy a blank have it inletted for your rifle and carve and finish it yourself no problem. I know a guy who made his own stock out of fiberglass also. Not for me but he did it.

DG,
You got a little electric buzz saw or you scraping them the hard way?

I refinished a factory stock on a S&W 1500. After I sanded off the 1/4 thick of faded and chipped gloss finish, I almost didnt have any checking left on it. So When I finished with some new coats of oil finish on it, I recutt what was left by hand (single line cutter) and made it look like completely different gun stock. And after the polished blue job, it looked better then when it was new!
