What do you all feel was the best bolt action service rifle? A previous best weapon post left open questions. Bolt only here. I prefer the Lee Enfield (no4 especially)

Gotta vote for the 98 Mauser.

For combat use, none was as good as the SMLE in all its various versions......

not sure if you were meaning to cover all the variants of the 1903 springfield by just putting the 1903 as a choice. I dont particulary like the old 1903 but I do however love the 03A3 which is the 1903 but with IMO some major improvements. But then the 1903 was derived from the mauser design and they would be about the same in my book but with the exception that the 30-06 is a better cartridge then the 8mm. but when it come right down to it I have to choose the 03 action because its American but in some regards like strength the mauser action is probably better. so as for the poll im undecided.

How about the Remington 700. In Vietnam U.S. snipers were using it very effectivly.

Yes the Remington 700 was used in Vietnam, but it wasn't a standard service rifle
