Marlin Model 60 vs 10/22

Allright, I'm sure this has been debated before but after a long and seemingly fruitless debate with a guy at the gun store today I figured I'd ask everyone else. I personally prefer the Model 60. It functions very well, is accurate and just feels well made. Not bashing the Ruger, just my opinion.

I personally feel that out of the box the marlin is the better gun for the money. However the ruger can't be beat for aftermarket parts if you want to modify one. There is no limit to what you can do to one.

I have seen the same thing with the 17HMR. The Marlin and savage guns for a couple of hundred bucks tend to have a better track record than the ruger bolt action that costs nearly twice as much. It is a nicer built and feeling rifle, but seems to be hit and miss on accuracy for some reason.

I own a Marlin model 60 and I love my gun. check with friends and family someone may have them and you could take them out and see for yourself. There may actually be someone on theis forum that could let you shoot thier guns to help you decide. If your on oklahoma your more than welcome to rip off a few rounds with my model 60

Well as a very strong Marlin supporter and also a Ruger fan I think the 10/22 is a pos. I've yet to fire or see a reliable one. huge aftermarket but i'd be willing to bet if i put $500 into a Ruger and took my stock Marlin 60 it'd be more accurate and last longer w/ far far fewer malfunctions.

I'm a gunsmith with 26+ years and my vote is for 10-22 HANDS DOWN!

i have both the marlin 60 and the 10/22 and i prefer the 60. in my opinion the only advantage the 10/22 has over the 60 is after market parts.

I find it interesting that so many consider the 10-22 as the best choice, but then have to go on to replace the stock, barrel and triger mechanism. What they are saying really is that the 10-22 action is reliable but the rest of the rifle is no hell ?

Good point. I'd rather buy a rifle that shoots great out of the box rather than just a nice receiver to build on:D
