RE: terminal performance on game....opinions?
Here is some reading for you to look over. I think maybe it is what your looking for. You can skip all the real technical stuff and just read the parts that make sense.
Terminal Ballistics And here is a study done by the South Carolina DNR on animals dropped on the spot by rifles. It also linked to in the above link. SCDNR game study Happy reading, Paul |
RE: terminal performance on game....opinions?
YOU WANT OPINIONS? I GOT OPINIONS!
The 270 is for whinnies, The 30-06 is for grandpa's, and the 7 mag is an overbored piece of junk. You want a real weapon go out and buy a 338 win mag.(heavy sarcasim is intended) You want Drop in their tracks performance? Go buy yourself a video game. Because in the real world it doesn't happen consistantly. You want a short blood trail? Shoot any of the 'fore mentioned weapons and place your bullet in the shoulder crease around mid-body and your golden. Anything, else is simply hyperbole! |

One of those guys broke his collar bone. I dislocated my collar bone with a Ruger NO l in 416 Rem Mag. It never was the same again. It happen on shot 19 of a 20 shot string which I couldn't finish.[:@]

RE: terminal performance on game....opinions?
I've never hunted hogs so I can't comment on that but I've harvested more deer than I can count. When it's freezer food it's more than a sport it's a lifestyle. Of the cal. mentioned I prefer the 7mm mag (only my educated opinion). I also own a 30-06 and .270. I wouldn't hunt deer with more than a 150 gr. bullet. The Barnsx are no more effective than the Noslar partition with more cost. Even cheaper yet and effective is the Sierra boat tail. If you expect to see them drop straight down like the hunting shows, it just doesn't happen unless you hit the spine, though I've seen them drop straight down with a lung shot. I've seen a big buck run near 100 yards after being hit and when I opened him up there was hamburger where the heart used to be. Whitetails are the most exciting North American animal to hunt. That's why it's a multi billion dollar industry and why you are asking the question. Just when you think that you have out thought them they will do something that you can't believe.
