Ihad a 116 in 7mm rem mag and now have a 10 fp in 308 the major difference is the 116 {skinny barrel] will heat up alot faster than the heavy barrel and in my experience that will effect accuracy . I hope this helps chad btt the model 10 is the short action version of the 110

If you want a 300 mag the I would go with the 300 WSM in the 16. Your post said it was a 116 but if it is a 300WSM then it isprobably a 16 which is the short action while the 116 is the long action.Even with the lighter barrel. Yes, it will heat up faster, but what does that matter if your first shot goes where it is supposed to. (or even your second).
As for the Simmons scope - that's anyone's guess. Some are OK while others are terrible. For about $200 you can pick up a nice scope like a Burris Fullfield with ballistic plex say in 3-9X. Perfect for your new 16.
