Honestly who picks out these guns?!

Im a commitee member of my local NWTF chapter. We were all shocked and kinda amused when we found out what the JAKES(Juniors Acquiring Knowlegde Ethics and Sportsmanship) gun of the year was. It is a freaking H&R (now marlin not that it matters) single shot 12ga! They called it a "youth trap gun". I have an H&R single shot 12ga and I wouldnt let my worst enemy shoot that thing! They are terrible kicking things. Any opinions on this awesome choice of gun? Does anyone know who decides these things because they need to get a clue or supply a complementary trip to the doctors to fix a broken collar bone...

I had one with a rifled slug barrel on it. I fired two boxes of those Hornady sst slugs through it . Took it to a gun shop and traded it for a set of scope rings J.K. It kicked like a raped mule.

Love the NWTF, but hey, H&R Sponsors, so sure that is why they chose it..... does make you wonder though with all the other choices. I won an 870 Remington Express in the Sponsor draw......

We also got the trap gun you are talking about - good looking but I don't know about it being a youth gun. We also got the 257 weatherby magnum with our sponsor package. I'm in IL, what sense does a 257 make here???

Not a big fan of the last two JAKES Gun of the Year models. But then, not a big fan of H&R anyway.
Worse than the JAKES GOY was just the gun we got for our JAKES raffle; it was just a plain H&R; no emblems, no engravings, no nuthin. Looked like we went all-out and spent $80 on a gun to raffle off. [&:]
The rest of our gun package was sort of ho-hum, too, IMO. Browning BPS was the Gun of the Year. Wasn't it just GOY two years ago?
Oh well, that's why we supplement our gun package with a few we purchase from local gun dealers every year.
