.243 would probably work great for coyotes, but I'm partial to the 25-06. I think the benefits to the 25-06 on deer outweigh the 243's benefits on coyotes. If you get the right bullet, the 25-06 shouldn't damage the coyote pelts that much more than the 243. And if you're looking for something even more in the'varmint' range, yet still more than the .204, maybe consider the 220 Swift. Just my $.02
