ive got the single six and i love it. My gun tends to like the 22mag shells better than the standard 22lr. I shoot the 22lr more though, because its alot cheaper. The ruger single six's are great looking handguns and shoot great. The cylinder is really easy to swap in and out. The 22mag should suffice a little better than the 22lr for what you need it for. I always shoot winchester 40gr jacketed hollow points.

I got an old Herters that is styled after a Single 6 that has both the 22lr an 22mag cylinders. For the intended purpose the 22mag is alot better choice than the lr in my opinion.

Happy single six owner here. Mine was bought for me when I was 4 in 1976, have enjoyed it for as long as I can remember.

The reason Single Sixes shoot 22 Mags better than .22s is that the barrel is bored for a .22 Mag...

AMT did make a 22 mag semi auto.It was called Auto mag ll.I'm not even sure if AMT is still in business.They had a three differentbarrel lengths. 3 3/8"-4 1/2" and 6".I have one with the 6"bbl.Looking in a 1996 Gun Digest MSRP was 405.95.

I paid like $250 something for mine in the late 80's when I was in the military. I got it in Ohio my home state and took it to my base in California. 4 months later the price went up on them and I sold it to some guy for like 500 bucks! Only time I ever made money on a gun. I sort of wish I would have kept it though in hindsight. It was a pain checking it in and out of the armory everytime I wanted to shoot it though since I lived in the dorms and couldn't have a weapon in my room.

They used to make a very cool 10mm as well.

When you say that they shoot the mag better "because they are bored for it" what exactly do you mean. The actual bore diameter and groove diameter would be the same right? But you must mean that the free bore or "jump" before the rifling is more conducive to the mag shoting better...I guess.

Perhaps it is because the mag round is longer so there is less "jump" before the rifling grabs the bullet?
