Default .357 Mag Hunting Round

Howdy folks! Never posted here before, hope somebody can help. I'm trying out handgun deer hunting for the first time this year. Not too much into handguns yet, but getting there. I am shooting a Colt Python .357 Mag with a six inch barrel. What I'd like to know is if a 125 grain jacketed hollow point is sufficient to kill a deer. I had previously used 158 grain jacketed hollow points, but it didn't seem to shoot them all that well and I also am somewhat limited in ammo selection as there are no real gun shops around here. The 125gr. rounds are in plentiful supply. Will they be O.K., or are they too small?

I reloaded some 125gr. jacketed hollow points for a friend a few years back. He said they worked great in his Ruger Blackhawk. They were loaded at max. The bullet went through one shoulder and almost tore the other off.

You should be ok as long as you limit shots to under 50 yards.

Hey, thanks for the feedback fellers! I have to admit that I grinned and chuckled a little bit at your reply, frizzellr. Right now I figure I'm lucky if I can take a 25 yard shot. 50 yards would be like shootin' for the moon for me. I think I'll probably keep it more like 15-20. Gotta say I'm liking this handgun thing, but it is awful frustrating to shoot so well with a rifle and so poorly with a handgun *L*. I'll get there though. Thanks again for the advice. I was a little worried that Friday morning would come and find me without any useable ammo.

I know the feeling. There is alot more to being proficient with a handgun than there is to a rifle. Practice is the key. Good luck.
