RE: new gun for fiance
Funny... I didn't want a gun for mine 'til 11 years after she'd become my WIFE!
Whoops - sorry: off topic. Anyway, have her handle both guns, & see what fits her best. If she's already proven shecan handle thosecartridges with your rifle, she'll handle them even better in a rifle that fits her well. And both cartridges will handle just about every critter on this continent. Take her to the store, and see which rifle follows her home. Good Luck, FC |
RE: new gun for fiance
Going with F.C. again. It depends on what she likes. Personally I would think she will favor the Remington as they seem to be less crude than some of the savages i have shot as far as the stock goes. Savage has some pretty boxy stocks out there and its not a problem for me cuz ive got more a baseball glove than a hand for someone with smaller hands the remingtons seem to rounded better to fit smaller hand altough i havent found a remington that doesnt fit my mitt of a hand.

A Remington Model 7 or 700 would be a good choice. Good luck.

RE: new gun for fiance
I'd go with the Savage 10PGX in 270 win.

Sound advice. Have her handle a few diff. models. I'm a serious Savage fan myself, but know that there are a lot of good firearms out there with other names...

RE: new gun for fiance
So many replies.... yet,
No one asks what it will be used for, so.... What will she be using it for? You know.... matching tools to the job, etc. etc. If you/she don't know, then my advice has always been.... One's first three long guns should be: 22LR 30-06 12 gauge |

RE: new gun for fiance
deer hunting and wood chucks mostly. she likes to shoot and she likes my .270 like i said earlier

RE: new gun for fiance
Up to her, but I prefer the 30-06.
But, if you've already got both, why not get her a 243? If you're going to be her husband, I'm sure you guys can share, and you add a new caliberfor your hunting needs. 243 is a good gun, and one day, when you have kids, the 243 will be a great gun for them to carry. Good luck, KP |
RE: new gun for fiance
you make a good point, but my guns are all wood stock except for my .300 ultra mag, and she likes synthetic she says wood is ugly (she's crazy) plus the pull on my rifle is a little long for her and uncomfortable. i was thinking remington m700 is sps youth .270

RE: new gun for fiance
now the only question is what caliber? 30-06 or .270. performance is about the same with factory ammo.

ORIGINAL: kilotanker19 now the only question is what caliber? 30-06 or .270. performance is about the same with factory ammo. Ought Six! Tastes Great! Less Filling! You may as well toss a coin. If your your menu is mostly deer, go with the .270, and save the scant bit of recoil. If you see yourself going for elk/moose/etc., too, it might me nice to have the extra .03 in diameter. Even that's been open to volumes of debate over the years. FC |
