I recently purchased an H & R 20 ga. Ultra Slug Gun.The dealer I purchased the gun from said it was agood shooting slug gun. The person I had mount the scope told meto be careful with it. He said the hinge pin wouldbreak if I used the highperformance slugs (such as winchester partition gold or federal barnes expanders). Any truth about the above claims?

N O. Probably one of best dedicated slug guns on the market right now for the money. A bunch of people on here own them. I have one in 12 ga and have owned a few with the shot barrels. I know probably 50 people personally that own or have owned H&R/NEF firearms either in slug guns, shot or centerfires. I have NEVER heard of a hinge breaking.
If this were the case they couldn't give them away.
Do a search on this site for them and see what responses you get. Then go to Shotgunworld.com and do the same thing. Then visit the graybeard forums and see what they have to say. They have a whole forum dedicated to H&R guns.
Great guns, I am sure you will be happy. I feel the 20 ga is the better gun as well. It should shoot the faster loads pretty well. If you can hold on to it the gun will hold up

Absolutely not. I have had the 12 gauge Ultra Slug Hunter for years now. It is the best slug gun I have ever owned. Like Paul said - do some research on it and you'll see that everyone agrees. Good luck.

I own the H&R 20 Ultra.Know alot of guys around here that own them and never ever heard that story before.
I own a very old (50yrs+)12g H&R single with a worn hinge that I will not use/fire for that reason.
As Paul M stated do a search on this message board on the H&R Ultra's.
You bought a real nice slug slinger
Enjoy It.

Oh and if this fella mounted your scope.............I would be inclined to go back and double checkhis "work" (i.e. all the fasteners).

I have both the 20 & 12 gauge models and the only other gun on the market that I thinkcan compare in accuracy is the Tar Hunt and it is around 10x the price. I have not heard one bad thing about their reliability. Its a fabulous gun, enjoy shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. My particular guns like Remington Ultra Core Lokts which leave the muzzle at 1900fps.................
