Default Sub $400 .300 Win Mag

I'm primarily a bowhunter, but recently I have found a few situations in which I'll need a long range shooter. What do you recommend in this price range/cal and why? I don't care about looks, or something that will appreciate over the years. I would like a synthetic stock and something other than a blued barrel. I just want a work horse that I can depend on, and shoots well. I was looking at a model 710, but I haven't read good things about them. Please help.

It looks like the weather warrior would break my $400 price range. I just don't want to sink much $ into a new gun, because it might see 50 rounds a year tops after I take it to the range for the first time. Usually the only time I take a centerfire into the field, it's the Benelli in the duck swamp. Otherwise I try to stick to my Bow Tech.

If I only had 400 dollars for a depenable rifle. I sure wouldn't buy a new one. I would find a good used remington 700 SS, or maybe a savage 116. Don't waste you money on the other junk. I guess you could find a H&R single shot.

Savage 111 package or model 10 package.....the 10 series might break the $400 but no by much.....and it will come with a 3X9 40mm scope. Those guns by themself will be tack drivers...check it out. Dont go with the 710 plz....

There is a Savage 110 7mm Tacticle Rifle in "Gun Digest" for $300.00 at 99%. Gene Guilaroff 270-662-7309. Good luck.

BigCountry is right(don't tell him I said that), find a good used rifle. This is the time of the year to find one. I would suggest looking for a good used Thompson Center Encore. If you decide to do a little different hunting, you can add barrels. Even go ML hunting. Tom.
