.260 Remington for deer?
There is talk in some circles of using the .260 as a tactical police round instead of the .308. They can have BCs over .6, cook along pretty good, and have plenty of energy for deer at several hundred yards.
Anybody like it for deer?
With a 140g Amax bullet, I think it did about 2,800 fps, and penetrated around 18 inches in gelatin with a nice wound channel.

I built a 260 Rem for my wife and she loves it. She's killed several deer & hogswith it using Sierra 120 gr Pro Hunters and 120 gr TSX's. I use it for coyote hunting quite a bit with Sierra 85 Gr HP's.
As a sniper I wouldn't choose a 260 Rem over a 308 Win though. I've been using both for years in handguns and rifles. I really like them both but always opt for 308's on heavier gameespecially atlong range.I get as much velocity out of my 308 pistol, with 150 gr bullets as I get from a 24" barrelled 260 Rem with 140 gr bullets.
6.5 cartridges have really become the fad in the past few years, especially since the 260 Rem appeared. I think they're over rated.

The 260 is an excellent deer cartridge and the 6.5 bullet is starting to rule the long range shooting with cartridges like the 6.5-284. The 264 Win Mag is just more of the same and is one of the best long range Lope rifle out there. The bullets are long and have a very high SD and BC.

i bought my wife a model 7 in 260, now i carry it about 95% of the time, when i went to get one i was looking for a 7-mm08, but i tell you i really like the 260, i have killed 12-15 deer with it, very happy with the caliber, and anybody can shoot it, my grandson weighs around 100# and he'll shoot it all day long, its a real pleasure to shoot

I have a rem bdl now in 260,have had a mtn rifle rem.,and a ruger and all three will shoot.Have took deer with the 100,125,120 and 140 gr bullets, from around a 50 yds to 450 yds and to me after taken deer with a lot of different calibers it is one sweet round.
I don't ue it all the time because I like to hunt with other rifles some too,for instance this past year I used a 308.270,and 25/06 to take deer.the longest shot was 270 yds with the 308 and if I had been useing the 260 it would have done just as good.
If tikka would come out with the 260 in the varmit model I would have one too.
Not saying the 260 is any better than any other deer caliber ,I just like it a lot.

A couple of my customers use the .260 for tactical/sniper matches and swear by it. You might visit AR15.com forum and do a search. Zak Smith and Michael Aos are both doing quite well with the .260 Remington. I believe that Jim Clark Jr. also used the .260. Light recoil, great accuracy, wonderful long range ballistics . . . . . there is a lot to like here.
