the Walmarts are getting rid of their guns and i have the opportunity to get one at a great price.
they have a weatherby vanguardin 300 win mag
and
a remington 700 BDL also in 300 win mag
the vanguard is cheaper...like i believe $80-100 cheaper
so what do you guys think, i hear both manuf. are solid and the round is a great big game round

Depends on how good the deal is, might be worth getting them BOTH.
I checked here too, they didn't put them on sale, just got rid of them.
Here in Lexington, KY they opened a new store a few weeks ago w/o guns, then pulled the guns from the other stores on 01/20/07.
I didn't really do any gun buying there (impulse bought a 17hmr there a couple of years ago, that's about it), but hate to see guns pulled from any store. I noticed the new store that just opened had an awful selection of hunting/shooting gear too.

the rem. was not on sale but the weatherby was
this walmart is located in Geneseo, NY
the guy who does the paperwork there for gun sales has been doing it for years and said that walmart, for some reason, was in the top 20 in gun sales in the nation, what the guy said so take it with a grain of salt
they still have a year left on their license to sell
every other walmart has pulled their guns to my knowledge in upstate new york
the reason they are pulling guns, this fromthe walmart employee who sold me my win. 70,is that these stores have a large turn over of employees
they unfortunately make a number of mistakes across the nation as far as accurate forms
walmart is then fined for these faulty forms and problems that have arrived from the sales
it has gotten to the point that it just isn't worth it to sell guns
i checked out ordering a ruger mk II but theydiscontinued all ruger orders
they are still ordering win. and rem. and weather. however
so i just picked up a win. 70 in 30-06 for $420, not bad
have yet to fire it cause it's so damn cold and windy here in NY right now
i have to admit i do like the safety on the win. rifles
they have an intermediate position where the trigger is on safe yet you can pull the bolt back and eject the round
i have yet to get my tax return back but am think once i do i may just place an order for a gun chambered in 300 WSM.....just don't know what manu.
it's really sad that walmart is getting rid of their guns
if i go to Dick's, Gander MT or any other gun shop i am gonna pay more
at least they will still sell ammo and other stuff
but i will miss those rotary gun cases

this is what i got from the wal-mart website.
As a retailer, we make business decisions every day on what products to offer our customers based on customer demand. In order for each of our stores to be a "store of the community" and offer merchandise that is relevant to that specific community and customer base, we recently made a business decision no longer to offer firearms in approximately 1,000 of our locations.
We began phasing out firearms sales in these stores earlier this year. In stores where there is sufficient demand, nothing will change.
We will continue to evaluate our merchandise selection store-by-store to make sure we remain relevant to the majority of our customers.
