I dont know what I want its between a Marlin 444 or the Marlin450, I already have a 30/30 but refuse to shoot it due to it being a winchester.

I am pining for a Marlin XLR in .444mag, but have to wait for a while yet. I would say to go with the .444.

The .450 caliber has a few larger bullets available, 400 and 405 gr. but, when loaded with the same weight bullet weight, the velocities produced are very similar between the two.

444 Marlin: http://www.reloadersnest.com/query_bw.asp?CaliberID=90&BulletWeight=300

450 Marlin: http://www.reloadersnest.com/query_bw.asp?CaliberID=196&BulletWeight=300

450 Marlin, bigger bulets, and can be loaded to higher energy levels then the 444.

I'm wondering why too??

I hope it isn't because your "saveing it"?? If it's one of the zillions of"run of the mill" Winchesters, you won't live long enough for it to increase in value enough to NOT be worthhunting with it!

Do you have a problem with a 45/70? It is a great round also.

Either caliber would make an excellent choice. My choice would be 45-70, but my reasons are purely nostalgiac(spell check). I have not shot a 450 Marlin, but everything I have seen and read make it a top notch performer. I would go with the 450 Marlin, because I reload. I believe there would be more bullets available.

I totally agree with you on the Winchester. If you really want to get rid of it, give me a call. I might posibly be able to suffer through ownership of such a piece. Tom.
