best short action round

i am looking for the "best" short action round, i live in iowa so really id only use it for a week a year here for the centerfire rifle deer season. however there is a good possibilty that i will be going on some other hunts for black bear and elk, and mabey pronghorn and mule deer. I have a browning a-bolt in 25-06, im looking at the 300wsm or the 325wsm, but im almost ready to get a 308 win and handload it up some, just for the conveiance of being able to go to wal-mart and get shells for it and shoot it real
cheap.wondering what recoil would be like on the 325 wsm in a browning micro a-bolt. thats my first pick so far, what do you all think?

The 308 is the best, forget the WSM's they won't be around in 10 years.

I'd go for the .308 also. Or maybe a 7mm-08. In reference to the .308, why would you need to "handload it up some"? A .308 is good to go on whitetails out to 400 yards or so.

300 wsm would be my choice , they are very popular , and I believe they will be with us as long as we have guns .

The remington usm have not sold so they may fall by the wayside .

The WSM's haven't sold that great, either, they won't be around in 10 years, guaranteed.

I don't agree! I can't see the 270 or 300wsm going anywhere. NA has been reluctant to accept an 8mm cartridge so a little to soon to predict the 325's longevity.

The micro is a few oz lighterplus shorter, so I wouldexpect the recoil to be more rapid and the barrel to jump more in it vs the regular abolt (medallion or hunter). I have not shot a 325 wsm but it will producemore then your 25-06, whether or not it will be tolerable only you can determine that.

You already own a great antelope and deerrifle in the 25-06 rem, so look for a rifle that will meet your elk criteria. While the 308win is capable I would personally be looking at 3006 or 300's if you want to use the .308 diameter bullets. Since you seem to want a short action chambering the 300WSM seems like the logical step to take.

Good luck

I'm gonna end it, I've already been kicked off 3 forums, for pleading my case against the WSM's:D

I would pick a 300 wm over the wsm personally!!;)Thoughone can't deny they have become extremely popular. A quick look at all the manufacturers offering the 270 and 300wsm confirms this notion. Remington dumped their failed attempt and now offer both 270 & 300wsm chamberings.

LOL, alright, you got me, I like the Long Action magnums, and will always prefer them, but, the 300 and .270 WSM's are gonna be around for a long time. I don't know about the 7mm and .325 WSM though.
