Default 10 Guage For Turkeys

I'm thinking of buying a Browning BPS 10 Guage MOBU for turkey hunting. Anyone have one or use a 10 for turkeys? Thoughts/opinions welcome. Thanks.

My huntin partner uses an old single shot H&R and has killed them past 60 yards. But it is more fun to call them in close where a big 10 isn't necessary.

I know a couple people that used 10's for turkeys and ended up getting Winchester semi auto NWTF Edition and they shoot turkys farther then they did with there 10's. The Browning BPS has less recoil then my Mossberg 835 wit 3 1/2in turkey loads. Its just the gun has more weight to be carrying around all day trying to find turkeys.

Remington makes the SP-10 shotgun in 10-gauge.

Does anyone know much about it?

In my humble opinion, the 10 gauge is the ultimate shotgun for turkey.
I have owned 2 browning BPS 10 gauge that was used exclusvely on turkey. The ONLY reason I do not still own or use them on turkey today is because of 2 reasons. #1-I only hunt with a bow now. #2 Almost ALL of the hunters I took out for turkey wanted them,or tried to buy them(and suceeded).
With all other things being equal, the same 2 1/4 oz load of shot will pattern better from a larger bore (shorter shot charge) than it will a smaller bore with longer shot charge. The reason for this is the heavier and longer a shot charge is for a given bore-the more pellets are flattened from contact from barrel and more sectional compaction.
By the way, after backboring, honing, and custom choke tube,my BPS 10 would produce 38 in for total pattern at 60 yards!

A 10 will pattern SO much better than ANY 3.5" 12ga. Period. Great guns. With proper tubes and tuning, you can shoot and kill turkey's at distances they ought not be shot at. Only bad thing is they all weigh about as much as a big turkey...and thats a lot to be toting around all day. They do have less recoil because of it (nothing is worse than my 835). But you aren't going to feel any recoil when you bust a bird...I don't care if you are shoulder firing a howitzer...you won't notice until you are already on the ground that you shot.

I've never done it, but I've seen it in action, and the 10's are impressive. Like Swamp said, a 10 will out-pattern a 12 all day long.

I've patterned a lot of 12 guages for turkey hunting and turkey shoots, from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2" and I've never seen patterns from a 12 that even come close to a 10.
