Whats a good .22?
I'm thinking about asking for a .22 for christmas. I was wondering what you fella's thoughts are on them. Is there a brand or style that is popular? what are good ones to get. I see 22's all over the place, i don't want a cheap one. Something that is very accuate.

RE: Whats a good .22?
Ask fo a Marlin or a Ruger. STAY AWAY FROM THE REMINGTON 597. I have one and it won't shoot a single clip w/o jamming. It doesn't eject the cases all the way out before it slams shut.

RE: Whats a good .22?
If I was looking for a new .22lr that was accurate, great trigger, reliable, and just pretty to look at... I would get the CZ 452 American. Great gun, not a bad price, seen them for around $275, and they are tack drivers..... A marlin won't even compare to these fine rifles....and I own two marlins

RE: Whats a good .22?
I second the vote for the Ruger 10/22. Lot's of accessories for this as well. If I had the money I would get a Kimber. Not the gun I would recommend for a beginner but they sure are nice. The Ruger won't do you wrong I love mine. Good luck and shoot safe

Ruger 10/22 is a good choice!

RE: Whats a good .22?
It depends upon what you want. If you want an affordable tack driver, go with a CZ. My CZ shoots with my Anschutz and Sako but cost a whole lot less.

RE: Whats a good .22?
I would highly recommend the Ruger 10/22, they are inexspensive, accurate and just fun to shoot. Plus there are tons of parts out there to make them custom target rifles. Ive killed many squirrels with mine. I think mine cost like 160.00, so there not going to break the budget. The best .22 i ever had though was my 55D anshultz, ive never seen anything that would shoot with it, sorry i sold it.

RE: Whats a good .22?
Get a ruger 10/22. I have had mine for about 30 years and it has never let me down.
You can buy more accesories for this gun than any other .22 including barrels that are guaranteed to shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards. |
RE: Whats a good .22?
10/22 is always a good choice for the ones who like the semi-auto (and somedays thats what i want and other days its not). a 77/22 aint a bad choice if you want a bolt action either though

RE: Whats a good .22?
Winchester 52 b if you could find it
CZ, Kimber, Browning semi Winchester or Marlin lever gun |
RE: Whats a good .22?
i would go with either,...
ruger 10/22 in 22mag or 22long. i shot my girlfriends brothers'. sweet rifle and no jams. i own a winchester 9422 in 22WMR and is a tack driver at 50 yds with iron sights. bith are awsome and never had a problem with. but the winchester was alot more than the 10/22 |
RE: Whats a good .22?
If I was going to buy a 22lr it would be the 10-22 ruger . I don't shoot one much though ,would much rather shoot a 22 centerfire anything over a 22lr.

RE: Whats a good .22?
First thing, don't buy anything but a semi-auto!!! It's a waste of time to pump or throw a bolt for an inch and a half.
I'll throw a tube-fed in the mix. My Favorite tack driving .22lr is the Marlin model 60. Best thing about them is, They are very accurate, but also they are incredibly easy to take down and therefore easy to throroughly clean or find defects yourself, plus, they cost around a hundred less than the Ruger 10/22, and you get 16 shots instead of 10, right out of the box. My first .22 was a Marlin 99-M-1a, which is a model 66 that looks a like an M-1carbine, it's from the 1950's, and it still punches paper like no other. I've owned a 10/22, and a couple non-semis (which I'll never own again), and now I'm back to my new marlin 60, and so glad I came back!!!! Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!! |
RE: Whats a good .22?
The ruger 10-22 costs about 160, so if the Marlin model 60 is 100 less, then it would be a 60 gun. I have a hard time believing that, but maybe it's true....anyways, I highly recommend the ruger 10-22. I have had one for about 5 years now, and I have fired tens of thousands of rounds out of it. I have never had a jam, and I have gone about 5000 rounds without cleaning. one fine day at the range, I put 50 magazines (50 rounds) all in a 1 inch hole at 50 yards. The 10-22 is very accurate, and very smooth and easy to shoot well. It is fast, reliable, and accurate, and in my opinion, the best 22 rimfire you can buy. Get the 10-22 and you will not be disappointed in any way.

RE: Whats a good .22?
For a bolt gun, I'd go with the CZ, they make some standard models that should discount for around $200. They are a very accurate gun for the money.
For a semi-auto the 10/22 is a good pic, but still will not be as accurate as a good .22 bolt gun, unless tweaked a bit. "Lord, make me fast and accurate." |
RE: Whats a good .22?
"First thing, don't buy anything but a semi-auto!!! It's a waste of time to pump or throw a bolt for an inch and a half." I can't tell you how many times I have been in the woods and heard that bone chilling sound of spray and pray coming from a semi-automatic 22. To me a semi is a waste of time. Have you ever seen how accurate a Marlin 25MN or 880 is? The other thing is how many semi's can shoot shorts, longs and long rifles?
