Having taken 7 boar myself, the .410 would not be my first choice of firearm for a boar hunt. But, it will do the job with the right load and the right shot placement. I would shot only slugs, as I am not sure if any major ammo maker offers a buckshot load for the 410. I beleive Winchester and remington offers a 2.5" 1/5oz slug loads. As far as I know, there is not a rifle round that will interchange with the .410 shotgun round. Oh yeah, and keep your shots close, maybe 50yds max.

First choice: Borrow a rifle, .30-30 or bigger.
Second choice: Use .410 slugs and have someone with a rifle backing you up. A big hog can hurt you. Never hurts to have a climbable tree close. Good hunting.

shooting a rifle bullet out of a 410 is just plain stupid. Unless it is written on the barrel, DONT SHOOT IT OUT OF THE GUN! This is one of the 10 Commandments Of Firearm Saftey, if you don't know and follow them you shouldn't be using a gun!

Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage.

Muncher

The boars we shoot over here can be dangerous,as they have very sharp tusks that they will use on you if you wound or corner one!! I Presume they do over there too.

I wouldn't use a 410 on them,the minimum I'de use would be a 243 with 100 grain projectiles,these days I use a 7mm-08 with 130 or 140 grain projectiles.

I'de think very carefully about hunting them with a 410.

Even if a 45 long colt or 44 Mag, fit and shot out of it. It would be unsafe. Shotgun barrels are thin and not made to handle alot of gas pressure as are rife barrels.

Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage.

Don't let these guys tell you a 410 is to small for hog. I've popped a bunch of them with about everything you can use other than handguns. .22 and .410 I got the most with. You know just to use a slug, you can put a regular bullet in a 410 but it is very unsafe. I shoot'em in the neck on a real big hog, most under 100 pounds you can bust behind the shoulder. I've never had move after it's been shot in the neck. Our hogs can get pretty big, not unusual to get up past 400 pounds, flinging dogs everywhere, leaving a trail of destruction, swimming rivers and killing fish with thier smell. Then you can jump on it with a knife! or if your getting a little to old for that you can use a gun.

Default To hog ranch guy

Ok so after reading this **** I had to create an account,
First.... ummmm if you cannot spell correctly im pretty sure no one will pay 775 for a hunt if the owner of said place cannot spell simple words correctly.... cue excusses

Secoundly, I can easily kill 400 pound boars all day for free in alabama and other states where wild boars are a problem ...
So ya that being said a 410 with a slug is suitable enough for boar lile any gun shot placement is key head neck shoulder or lung hits work great. Thanks

You created an account to blast a 15 year old post about spelling (something which you may wish to acquire a better understanding of yourself)? For one, the OP made ONE post and never came back. Second, just who, and what, were you posting about anyway? No "hog ranch guy" on this page at all? No mention of $775 for a hunt...Troll much?
