Walmart ???
There arethree Walmarts within probably 6miles of each other near where I live. Champaign, IL., Urbana, IL, and Savoy IL. all separate towns but the city boundries all connect. I can't be sure if the Champaign Walmart ever did sell guns because I was in it for the first time last week. None of them carry firearms anymore. I was in the one in Urbana this afternoon and noticed a sign at the sporting goods counter that they no longer was selling firearms effective 12/28/06. Is this a local deal or is Walmart cutting back on firearms?? I did pick up a couple of boxes to Pyrodex 50 grain pellets for $17. Of course nobody was maninig the sporting goods so I couldn't ask. Didn't feel like tracking down a manager. Anyone else seeing this around your areas?

RE: Walmart ???
The news has been floating around for awhile now. Walmart is getting out of the firearm business. They'll still carry ammo, pyrodex, cleaning accessories and whatnots but the firearms themselves, no. Different locations are phasing them out at different rates. At least this is my understanding.

RE: Walmart ???
Wal-Marts here in California haven't had guns for about five years or so.
|
RE: Walmart ???
If I remember right, they said Wal-Mart would be discontinuing firearm sales in 1800 stores across the country. Not all will quit, but a lot of them will. I could be off on that number though, I am going from memory.

RE: Walmart ???
The 2 wal-marts that I live near also have stopped selling firearms within the past 6 months.:(

RE: Walmart ???
i will admit i work at walmart. truth of the matter is that they drew a line of gun sales. stores below it lost their guns. stores about it kept them. dont know if it was the same line across the country or what. i work at a store thats surrounded by farmland and woods. ALOT of hunters here. we lost our guns. talked to the sporting goods guys and they said once they went electronic with ordering their sales dropped. back before that the guys knew what guns to keep on hand and how many of. now the computer does the ordering and judging...when everyone shows up in sept/oct looking for guns and theres none on hand they go elsewhere...something a computer doesnt know...thats why my store lost guns...the guys that used to do the ordering knew to get certain guns on hand certain times of year and kept the customers happy..

RE: Walmart ???
I was in WalMart today and even looked at the guns with my son, but I did not see any sign of them not selling them any longer. I knew this was coming to some places, but I don't think it will here. I will be checking though.

RE: Walmart ???
The walmarts in my area are dumping their stocks to one store and have been having VERY good sales (for example the Remington 700s were marked down to $299 about 3 weeks before Christmas). According to the main guy in the sporting goods at the main store in my area, only the top selling store in each little region (not sure what he meant by region) will keep firearms.

RE: Walmart ???
Would you buy a diamond for your soon to be wife at Zales? Walmart is discontinuing rifle sales for a reason. Think about it. No sales people with any knowledge, no maintenance when something goes wrong, no parts, no service ....only a cheap price on junk. Regards, Rick.

RE: Walmart ???
Yep, we lost our guns in Wash. St. last Dec. It sucks, because once you loose it, it will more than likely never come back. Big 5/Gart sports quit selling firearms as well. From what I understand the companies are tired of fighting it out in court over guns. That is the short version of the story anyhow.

RE: Walmart ???
They seem to have removed a lot of their guns from their webpage too. I was looking at one before Christmas, finally broke down and decided to buy it the other day, went to the website and they were gone! Can't find that particular model at any dealer here in the SW so I guess I'm going to do without this time.
|
RE: Walmart ???
I didn't think you could ever buy guns on the website?
|
RE: Walmart ???
The Walmarts in Bloomington and Normal stopped selling firearms in August.
|
RE: Walmart ???
You couldn't buy them off the website but you could pick a model out, print the page with the SKU # and then carry that printout into the store and they would order it for you.

RE: Walmart ???
Here in Arkansas they have been getting guns from other stores around the country that have stopped selling guns. There have been some pretty good prices. Not all the stores are getting the surplus, only the regional sales leaders. I hope they keep selling them here, once they stop they most likely wont start again. Only 11 more months until deer season!

RE: Walmart ???
Yeah, you can't say they sell junk there. have you ever looked at the brands they sell? Cause you might own "junk" if you happen to own a remington, savage, winchester, mossberg, howa, ruger, weatherby, or aberetta. I don't think any of those guns are junk. Their prices are low on guns, I think, so who cares if they don't have good service if you have a problem with the gun, most places send the guns in to the factory anyway, so call the company, they will more than likely treat you pretty good.

RE: Walmart ???
Walmart in Dover, Del doesn't sell firearms, but 8 mile down the road at Camden , Del they sell firearms.... I was in there checking them out right after Christmas...

RE: Walmart ???
The first K-Mart I ever went in (Colorado Springs, CO) had a great gun department.I bought a lot of ammo and hunting equipment/supplies fro them.
Then later, they made the fateful decision to stop selling guns! So did Sears! Both companies went bankrupt. They came back, sort of, but are mere shadows of what they once were. I think Walmart is making a serious blunder here! If they also stop selling the stuff I go there for, may they also go under! |
RE: Walmart ???
Just got back from the Westminster Maryland Walmart and talked with the Dept Manager. She said "Yep, April 1st they are coming to take her guns!" Only the top 500 sellers stores are keeping them. I asked her if she was going to reduce any of them come closing time and she said nope that they are taking them and restocking other stores with them.

What goes up must come down...and this will be the first of many steps to begin it for Wally..

RE: Walmart ???
Was in the local Wal-Mart a week before Christmas and bought a 11-87 offthe rack. In the process of doing the final sale, the Asst Mgr ( a gentleman named Mohammed) told me they were doing away with gun sales in this store. Didn't say when, just that it was coming. When I asked why, he said the paperwork was too overloading! I feel they will loose alot of business once that happenssince they have a large shooting club just 2-3 miles down the road. Oh well, I cantake my businesselsewhere.

RE: Walmart ???
This will be a good thing for local mom and and pop type gun stores.
