How often would you guys recommend swabbing the barrel down while I'm at the range? Also, what procedure? A full cleaning? A bore brush? A wet patch?

I don't want to waste time over-cleaning but I dont' want to be screwing up my accuracy, either.

I have a stock Savage 110 model bolt action rifle if that helps ya out any.

i never clean my rifle while at the range unless its my muzzleloader then i swab in between shots but i dont see it necessary to clean in between shots or anything in between shots.If i were you i would swab before and after the range. just my .02

I agree with Cougar. There is no need to bring your cleaning stuff to the range unless you are breaking in a barrel. However, I did find this article today.

There are a lot of successful shooter with vastly different cleaning programs. The summary at the bottom compares them all.

The only cleaning I do at the range is to pass the BoreSnake between loads and find it works well...

I generally only clean my rifles three or four times a year, although I recently bought a gun vise and have been scrubbing the bores more often. With my primary hunting rifle, I don't see much difference whether the bore's covered in copper or not. I get 1.25-1.5 inch groups @ 100 yards with Express Core-Lokts, and that's plenty good enough for my shots (250 yards maximum).

My general rules of thumb are to cover every metal surface with a thin coat of oil, where safe (not the bore or chamber when shooting!), and that if Ican see copper in every groove without using a bore light, I probably need a heavy scrubbing with a good copper solvent (Bore Scrubber, Sweets 7.62 for tough cases).
