RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I let a good friend talk me out of a Kimber Custom Classic-left handed-22 Hornet in 1982. I have been through a half dozen Hornet's since then. I have cussed him under my breath ever since(just kidding). I have never been happy with any other Hornet since. Man them older Kimber's are really something. Tom.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
One that I regret was my Browning Abolt 30/06 with a BOSS. It was the first BOSS that was the muzzlebreak. Shot my biggest deer (still to this date) with it and it almost made me go deaf. Sold it a month later. That following January, Browning revealed the BOSS CR, or non-muzzlebrake BOSS. The gun shot great, and I love the memory of that buck. Wish I would have held out a bit. But no matter, its replaceable, and I made $300 on the thing with the scope anyway.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I can't possibly remember all the guns I've bought and sold but one that I regret sticks out.
It was a custom .223 on a Sako AII action. It had a blonde, tiger's eye maple stock with rosewood endsa and a Douglas barrel, Leupold 3-9 VX-II, Timney trigger. Just a beutiful custom gun. I bought it for $425 because that's what the guy thought it was worth. ![]() So then I went to college and I was so poor and in debt that I had to sell it and i sold it for $1200 on consignment without the scope. Oh man I really loved that gun. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I've had a few, some bring tears to my eyes. The worst is figuring out what gotta so the family caneat, others were traded. Wish I still had 'em all!
Ruger super blackhawk .44 mag 7 1/2 Ruger 77V .22-250 S&W 629 classic .44 mag 8 3/8 and 5" S&W 60 kit gun .38 special 3" full lug S&W 442 .38 Ruger gp100 .357 Winchester 9422XTR .22 mag- gorgeous wood(sniffle) Glock 23 .40 T/C Contender .222 14" and .357 maximum 10" Remington 700VLS 6mm rem Dan Wesson patriot .45auto Colt Commander .45 auto What sucks the most is when you figure a model will be made forever, and you'll just get another one someday..... only to find it discontinued |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I do not even remember the make or model of it, but my first rifle/shotgun was a .22/.410 over under that I learned to shoot with and I wish I still had. It had been my grandfathers gun, so a classic. Mbr father traded it off about 10 years ago. I really wish I had that classic little shooter back, as it would have been great to teach my baby daughter to shoot with it.
No other gun regrets. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Red Lion..I know exactly what you are talking about. I had a Savage 22/410 when I was akid, traded it for a SXS 12 ga. Just recently bought a Stevens in nice shape to replace it, 45 yrs. later. Had to hunt hard to find a nice one.
Most all guns that I have gotten rid of were used to trade up for something else. Gotta admit, I do wish I had most of them back, too. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I've sold a bunch but can only think of two that I would like to have back....
1: a FIE SxS 20ga with 26" IC/M barrels, I killed a heck of a lot of pheasants with that gun over several really good dogs, I wish I had never sold it. 2: A browning Abolt stainless stalker in 338 RUM with burris Euro black diamond 3-12 scope. It was a sweet shooter and didn't kick bad at all due to the muzzle brake, I sold it just after I got married in a fit of practicality. I figured with the 300 win and the 375 h&H I didn't need the 338 RUM. Now I've been pining for a new one every since. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I'm about my guns like I am about my guitars. I just cannot let go of a single one.
But fortunately so far I haven't been in a bad enough money cruch to start selling things for whatever I could get. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
The only gun I've ever regretted selling, was a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt/45 ACP, but, I traded it for a Stainless Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag, so, it worked out ok.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Sako Finbear 300 Win Mag- less than 1 box of shells through it. My dad picked it up for $200 from some old man who didn't know what it was worth. I let him sell it to pay for the reloading stuff he also bought from the guy so that my mom wouldn't get mad at him. And I could only afford one hunting rifle for all game at that time, so I decided the 300 Win Mag was a little overkill for whitetails and speed goats. That was one sweet gun. If I had it to do over again, I'd go on ahead and let my dad get in trouble with my mom.[8D] But I don't regret letting it go all that much, because I also got a remington 700 7mm rem mag for $250 that I used for one season then sold for $450.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Traded my 1903 Springfield 30.06 in towards a Remington 710 .270. Figured out what a pile that was and ended up trading that in towards a Marlin 1894 .44 magnum. It all worked out, but now I do wish that I had the .06 back just since it is only appreciating in value every year. It had factory peeps and was in very good condition. That darned pawn shop just kept talking it down, warning me about the reciever coming apart someday, then turned around and offered me more than I thought that it was worth so I traded it in lol. Oh well. Another one that I sorto wish that I had back is a Savage 30-30 in bolt action. But that one can be replaced easy enough.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I've only sold 2 guns andregretted one of the sales
-Remington 597- I was very happy to get rid of that POS. -Winchester 94- not a very accurate rifle, but very handy. I bought it from a friend for $100 and sold it back to him a year later for $100 because I wanted to the money to buy a Yugo M48. I wish I would have kept the 94, as the Yugo was the worst quality mauser I've ever seen. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
My biggest regret was selling a beautiful, accurate (right at 1 moa), handy little Browning BLR Lightweight (straight stock) chambered in .284 Win.
Man, to this day I can't think of a better woods rifle for deer & elk, and this puppy made a legitimate 300-yard shot on a mule deer when I happend to get out of the woods.... I killed two elk with it...at about 80 and 125 yards...and it absolutely anchored both bulls in their tracks. A guy would be hard-pressed to find a better all-around rifle. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Truck Loads[:@]. But I guess most of all, the first 1911 that I built statrting with a cheap AO frame.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I have sold a few but no regrets.
Remington 700 Police 300 RUM. Weighed 15 3/4 pounds with a scope. Got tired of carrying the stuipd thing to hunt deer. It wasalso too muchgun foreverything in North America. Glock 22 Kimber Custom Eclipse. StainlessSteel gun. I discovered that i do not like stainless. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
ORIGINAL: cma3366a Most people who have been shooting for any length of time have traded or sold a gun or two. You often hear that "you'll regret it later", but is that really true? I've sold/traded more guns than most, and theres really only 2 I'd like to buy back. Remington 522 viper: A gift that quickly got traded on a ruger 10/22 Mossberg 695: When slug gun season vanished, it did too, sold for cash Winchester Post-64 M70 .243: I needed cash for a boat, and a buddy needed a deer rifle. He will never sell it. Remington 870 Express: Traded on a Mossturd 935 Ruger 10/22: Traded on the same Mossturd 935 Mossturd 935: No 2-3/4, and No Stainless mag tube= traded on Ar-15 Remington 141: Needed money for a boat Browning A5 Sweet 16: Got tired of the 16ga hassle, traded on a 12ga A5 Browning A-5 Light 12: Couldent shoot it for beans, traded on a Gold 3.5" Springfield 1903: Traded on CZ-550 Yugo 59/66 SKS: Got tired of 'minute of capitalist accuracy', trade for cash, and more than I had in it at that. Norinco SKS: Bought for $100,offered $150 for it shortly therafter, profit. Remington M11 12ga Sportsman: Out of time, couldent make it cycle, Traded on some cheap scopes. Marlin 336ADL .35rem: Burned in a fire Marlin 336A .35rem: Bought to replace the ADl, just not the same, traded on WBY vangard. WeatherbyVangard Weathergard 7mm Rem mag: Not accurate enough, traded on the Savage .308 Savage 11FNS .308: Innaccurate POS, traded on Winchester classic stainless Thetwo I somewhat regret. The Browning A-5 12ga, I couldent hit squat with it, but MAN was it nice:D. The Remington 141, I'll probably never see one as minty again, it was the one truely 1st rate gun my father owned, but he never really hunted with it, so not to much sentiment, I will never trade his beat to hell and back slug gun. A pre-64 M 70 Win Super Grade in .375 H&H with a Lyman Alaskan scope in a Jaeger mount and a Lymna 48 aperture with a Redfield Sourdough up front. Traded it for a Browning Grade IV BAR in .308 Win. Thought the .308 was a "more practical" caliber for the Lower 48. Made the trade on returning to Texas from a 3-year tour at Ft. Wainwright (Fairbanks) AK. BIG MISTAKE! The Browning was an inaccurate jam-o-matic! A .308 Norma Magnum built by the firm of Paul Jaeger in PA on a 1903 Springfield action. French Walnut stock, Leupold M8 4X scope, very accurate rifle. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I still have all of my guns I originally own so no regrets except for that beautiful caldean girl I let go like the pic that Brutal Attacks pic keeps reminding me of = - )

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Wincher Model 94 in 32 Winchester Special. I bought it off the rack at the local grocery store in the late 60's. Dad tried to talk me into a bolt action in a more modern caliber, but I wanted one just like his. I later mounted a Bushnell scope on a side mount and had to rotate the scope CCW so the ejected shell would clear the adjustment knobs.
Four years later, I bought a bolt action rifle in 308 Win. Later that year, my older brother went to work summers for a local utility. There was an old timer there who wanted to by my first rifle. I didn't care about selling it, but as a teenager, I could always use the money, so I sold the rifle and allmy reloading stufffor it. Fifteen years later, I went to work for that same utility and that "old timer" was still working there! I asked about my rifle and he said he traded it off several years earlier. I have all of Dad's rifles now, includinghis 32 Special, but I wish I still had that first rifle I ever bought. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
The only gun I ever got rid of was in a trade. I owned a mid 80's Rem 1100 that had 2 barrels with it, and I traded it for an 11-87 in Mossy Oak camo. I dont regret making the trade because I think I got the better end of the deal, but my 1100 was beautiful and shot well too. It was definatly a head turner. [&:]

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Never a regret yet.
I have won, been given, have purchased a quite a few- and have sold, tradedor gifted 5 guns in all were good choices in my mind to buy and let go. If a gun is hard to part with I don't. If it has no sentemental value andI do not see my self shoothin the gun in the future then I figure the gun must be worth more to somone else than me. I have a few which I have been considering selling or trading latly, And they just have not fully met my criteria for letting out of my stable yet;) |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Colt AR-15 in 9mm: what a fun gun to plink with, bulk ammo was cheap too. never fired it once i got out of the service so i sold it for what i bought it for
Springfield SAR8 (G3 Replica) .308: nice repeater, good quality too. needed cash so sold it for what i paid for it HK USP40 compact: couldn't get my pistol license when i got out of the service cause of some youthful offender crap i did when i was 15. boy did i pay for stealing those 2 comic books as a dare, only later in life. great pistol. got it for 550 bucks in LA when i was in the Army. had to sell it to a friend when my license got revolked. oh well another lesson in life i guess Ithaca deerslayer featherlite 12g: to much recoil, traded for a moss 500 12g with two barrels miss the Springfield the most by far. nothing like a semi auto rifle that is accurate. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
Owned many, sold some, traded one or two and gave one as a gift.
Two rifles I regret selling: 1) Reminton 700 Mountain Rifle in .270 Win. Bought it used, looked like new. Spent a small fortune on it's customization. McMillan lightweight stock, trigger job to 3 crisp lbs, recut crown to 11*, bedded, everything lapped and mounted a Leupold VXII 3 x 9 on it. Handloaded for it 'til I consistantly shot 3 shot groups at 1/2" with 140 grain bal tips. Thought I wanted a "bigger gun" after two years with that .270, so I sold it to a sherriff's officer aquaintance of mine. That was 14yrs ago. He still won't sell it back! Says it's a tack driver and kills all his deer. He always says "no way". Maybe I can get him drunk one day and buy it back!!! 2) Remington 700 Classic in .35 Whelen. Again, spent a small fortune on the customizing job as on the .270. Only difference was a Bell & Carlson stock. This rifle shot at 1" with two 200 grain handloads and 1.3" with 225's. Killed some nice critters with this gun. Had offers to buy after people saw it shoot. I said" I'll never sell this baby!" Yeah well, I eventually sold it for financial reasons and regret it ever since. Truly wish I had the Whelen back.... Oh well, there's always another classic out there somewhere that needs fixin'!!! |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
As a stupid kid, I traded inan off-brand .410 pump that had belonged to my dad for a POS S&W 12 gauge pump. The .410 wasn't exactly a collector's item, but A) It was my dad's and B) It was a hell of a lot more gun than that S&W. I think that thing ended up being a fencepost.
The one I regret the most, however, was a Win 94 30-30. Couldn't tell you if if was pre-64 or not (didn't know about that stuff as a kid) but it was my first deer rifle and it always treated me well. I think it was around my Senior year in high school I decidedI needed something with better ballistics and I traded it in onaRuger 77 in 7mag. I still have that 7mag and I love it, but I've regrettedlosing the 94 ever since. Kind of like the one car regret I have. In college I got rid of my 67 Firebird because it needed a lot of work and because I wanted to get a 65 4-4-2. Still have the 4-4-2 (and I like it a lot better) but I wish I would have found a way to keep that firebird, too. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
I have bought and sold MANY in the last 15 years, but there are two that really stick out. One was a 1969 Belgium Browning High Power that I sold to buy a Sig P228 in 1995, and the other was the first pre 89 Colt AR-15 that I ever bought (I have owned 15 since). I bought it for $600 at a gun show in 1998 and sold it for $1500 just before Y2K. One of the best profits that I have ever turned gun trading, but I wish I had the gun back.

RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
A 1972 vintage Remington 760 Gamemaster pump 30-06. Really a nice rifle bought for a Pennsylvania deer hunt back then. It sat until 1987 then sold it to a friend. Now that NY has allowed rifles in the Southern zone I do wish I had it again.
The other was a S&W Model 41. 22 cal. target pistol. another great gun. I enjoyed target shooting back in the early 80's butforced to worknight shift, sort of put a damper on that. I replaced it with a T/C Contender Super14 35 Rem. and shortly after thata Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag, Both have spent many years in the woods. The Ruger is a keeper but the T/C Contender I'd have no problems parting with. |
RE: Guns you've gotten rid of, Why you did it, and regrets.
As a youngin I had a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup in 45acp and an Auto Ordinance Thompson 1927A1 Tommy gun in 45acp. Back then I couldnt afford to keep them fed so I sold them. I sure wish I had them back as now I can afford to feed em :D
