RE: Rem Model8
I can tell you that my first memory of my dad haveing adeer rifle was a model08 Rem. in 35 Rem.. Although i don't know for sure, i'd be willing to bet he harvested around 100 deer with it... Maybe more??? He made unbelievable shots with that rifle, but then got the HP bugaround 1960and moved on to an Rem. semi auto in 30-06...

RE: Rem Model8
ORIGINAL: will79 EXACTLY like that one. What can you tell me about them? I bought the rifle in 1975 and sold it to my brother in-law in 1995. He died in 1998 andhis wife will not sellhis guns to anyone. I wish I never sold that rifle, it wasone of a kind. Igot tired of killing hogs and deer with it. The weight was the only thing I didn't like about, but it was a killing machine. You are lucky to have accquired one! Take care of it and it will last you a life time. |
RE: Rem Model8
Rebel Hog, is your's a model 8 or 81? Mine looks exactly like yours but the reciever says model 81 woodsmaster. I bought it at a gun show for 300$. The reciever is pitted but all other metal looks good. Could someone have made a model 8/81 hy-brid?

The 81 differed from the 8 by having an additional firing pin spring to eliminate the possibility of firing out of battery due to firing pin creep. Some writers say that the 8 and 81 have a detachable magzine, but I have never seen one in a standard rifle. I believe that may have been a special order for police or an after-market conversion. |
RE: Rem Model8
Everything about mine looks exactly like yours. What kind of stock and forend did the 81 have and is yours an 8 or 81? From what little I have found to read, the 81 came with a beavertail forend. I don't think mine fits that description, but the receiver says 81. Even if it is a hy-brid, it still shoots good and looks good. Either way I still think I made a good buy. Whadda you think?

RE: Rem Model8
Is there a good dun site to view pics and other things of Remington guns that aren't manufactured anymore? Because the Remington website doesn't show pictures for all of the guns, only a few.
I wonder why Remington discontinued such a nice looking gun like that. They should get rid of the stupid 710, and put back the 8, or 81. |
RE: Rem Model8
I totally agree about the 710. I don't know of any sights for older guns, that is why am asking you guys what the hell I got. If someone knows of a sight please let me know.
