These are for hand reloads you are talking about, Right? So this can't be said the same for factory ammo though? Wanting to get into hand loading more if you can get that much more velocity at the yardage than factory.

Yeah keep forgetting there are factory loads. I started reloadin in 1974. I have used the Federal Fusions in my 270 with outstanding results. However the 130 Federals only chronograph 2860 from my 22 inch barrel. Its easy to get around 3000 from the 130 grain bullets in handloads and the old X bullets were easy to wring 3100 fps from. I have not tried the TXS in the 270 although I bought a Box of Federal Premium 130 TXS loads for my 270 WSM. I have not fired any of them accross the chronograph yet but I would expecr 3250 fps from those.

My mom always talks about how my dad could hit a deer at 500 yards dead on with a cheap Walmart scope with his savage 270 i know that isn't me personally but after my dad died 5 years ago I got his rifle and use it for deer hunting and I have 300 yard shots and I am not even close to my dad's accuracy.

I thought I read somewhere that Jack O Connor killed an elk between 500 and 600 yards with the 270.

The effective huntable range of a 270win has very, very little to do with the round itself.

I use a range finder every time I shoot. I have shot elk over 500 yards many times using g a 270 Winchester. This year's cow was a tough hunt. I started crawling at a mile out and got to 575 yards and couldn't get closer. The bullet hit behind the shoulder and exited out the off side shoulder but stayed under the hide. The elk walked about 100 yards and laid down. The gun is a pre 64 Winchester 270. The load was a 140 gr Hornady BTSP at 3000 FPS. The bullet still weighs over 95 grains. I took a second shot at 668 yards and that one hit the chest but I was unable to find that bullet.
