22-.243 Anyone?
#1
I recently met a guy that builds his own guns and has created a 22-.243. I'm extremely intrigued by this caliber. I've always like the 22-250 but wished that it would shoot a little heavier bullet at the same speed. I have a .243 and really like it, but this seems to capture the best of both worlds. He loads an 80gr. 22 caliber bullet in a .243 casing necked down. He's shooting this 80gr. sierra at 3400fps... I think it would be a great varmint gun. Any opinions?

I saw a barrel for a T/C Encore at an auction. It was barrel stamped .22/250 which is just what I wanted as an aditional barrel for my encore muzzleloader. The tag on the barrel said .22/243 but I thought it was a misprint. In the catalouge it said .22/250. I bought the barrel and the wood forearm piece for a rifle barrel. When I went to put the barrel on the encore I see, .22/243 stamed on the underside of the barrel. Then I look at the paper work for when I payed for and piced up the barrel and it says .22/243 on it. So I slipped a .22/250 cartridge into it and it seemed to fit. So toof a spent .243 case and cut off the end ahead of the shoulder and it fit nicely into the chamber. I have no dies for it and so no ammo to shoot through it. I kind of think I will sell it to someone who will know exactly what they are getting. And get a .22/250.

Duffy, I saw the same thing at a Gun Show, I thought that someone had goofed up the tag, but the guy told me that it shoots .22/.243 ammo, I had no idea what that was at the time, I only knew that TC must've made another weird wildcat.

I am really not too interested in the barrel as it is and was wondering if I should sell it or take it to a barrel maker and see if I could have it rebored and chambered to .260 Rem.
