I am looking at a used Charles Daly compact 1911 that I am thinking about buying. It's chambered in 45acp, has a two tone finish (blued slide, satin finished chrome or stainless frame), checkered walnut grip. It is not in perfect shape has a few scratches and wear marks. They are asking less that $500. Does this sound like a good deal? I don't know much about the Charles Daly guns, are they worth having? Or shouldI spend my money elsewhere?
Thanks

Couldn't have said it better Longbeard.
Thats a friggin rip off.
You can get a brand new Taurus 1911 for right at $500, and it is a MUCH better gun than those Daly's. Our gunsmith fixed one last week (a Daly that is) that the takedown pin broke on as the guy was firing it. The slide went downrange with the bullet.
While the Taurus is better, if you are going to get a 1911, save your money and GET a 1911...read: Kimber.

I agree. My friend has a CD and I don't like it at all. I just looked at a Tuarus last week and I think it is a nice gun if you are just looking for a plinker and personal/home defense.
If you want a better 1911, I second the Kimbers. You can get a base Custom for around $800. A little nicer models run around $1K and then comp models are $1300 plus.
I'm hoping this is under the tree on X-Mas morning.

I get nervos when I hear the brand name 'Charles Daly.' I get very leary when I hear the words "compact 1911." Put the two together and its a complete no-go for me.
